Scientific Director
The primary purpose of the Scientific Director Drug Product role is to ensure state-of-the-art development, manufacturing and lifecycle management of Cell Therapy and other Biologics products, from early phases of formulation and process development to the lifecycle of commercialized drug products. This role requires a deep understanding of cell therapy and Biologics processes, parenteral (formulation & fill-finish) Drug Product manufacturing cGMP requirements, a vision for long-term process improvements, evaluation/implementation of new technologies, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders to meet and drive project milestones and deliverables.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Scientific Director Drug Product, are to:
+ Lead local and global cross-functional teams to provide technical leadership and strategic oversight for implementation of innovative solutions and long-term process improvements in cell therapy and other Biologics including rFVIII products produced at Berkeley
+ Represent the company as the technical expert on key drug product topics in interactions with Health agencies, by presenting at conferences/publications, and membership of industry forums
+ Lead and support technical root-cause investigations, perform risk assessments for critical deviations of high complexity
+ Lead and drive technical projects to improve science-based understanding of drug product unit operations. Provide on-floor technical support.
+ Act as drug product Manufacturing Science technical lead for pipeline products including new therapeutic modalities to ensure manufacturability and implementation of robust drug product processes for internal and external sites, support site and due diligence visits.
+ Act as senior technical resource and guide to junior members of the team, work with the team to determine technical solutions to complex manufacturing issues including engineering, conformance/validation and GMP runs and troubleshooting, serving as a subject matter expert on cell therapy and biologics technology transfer processes and best practices.
+ Provides ongoing and timely scientific support for Deviation investigations, CAPA management and Changes as required during development and commercial drug product manufacturing.
+ Proposes and drives implementation of valuable solutions in sustainably solving manufacturing issues (troubleshooting) and with regards to process optimizations.
+ Creates/ contributes to creation of corresponding documents (e.g., subject matter expert statements, memos, technical reports, product impact assessments, etc.).
WHO YOU ARE

Required Qualifications:
+ BS, MS or Ph.D. degree in Biology, Cell & Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.
+ To ensure the company’s license to operate and business objectives are met this position is essential for, Planning, designing, and conducting studies for Drug Product process development and improvement, Scaling-up and tech transfer with an emphasis on troubleshooting, Lifecycle Management of commercial products
+ Apply expert knowledge and skills in research and development activities that will lead to robust, sustainable formulations and manufacturing processes.
+ Independently designs and conducts process development experiments, assays, or operational procedures of considerable complexity with considerable discretion as to work details requiring complicated scientific analysis, operational planning, and execution in the field of Final Product Manufacturing for Biologics and CGT assets.
Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $149,000 – $223,000. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
