    Youth Empowerment Program Assistant (TERM-LIMITED)

    Job Summary

    The Program for Multicultural Health is seeking a part-time Youth Empowerment Program Assistant to support the expansion of the CARES Program, a career readiness and workforce development initiative integrated into Empower U, a culturally responsive youth development program that integrates social-emotional learning and leadership development. The role involves youth facilitation, workshop support and coordination across multiple community-based sites in the Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti area. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with youth, skilled in facilitation and committed to equity-focused, culturally responsive programming.

     

    This is a term-limited position funded through June 2026 (subject to renewal based on funding)

    Responsibilities*

    + Facilitate engaging, interactive workshops using an established curriculum framework focused on social-emotional learning and future readiness.

    + Build supportive relationships with youth and foster a safe, inclusive space for dialogue and skill-building.

    + Encourage youth voice, participation and reflection in each session.

    + Deliver content as scheduled at assigned sites and help prepare materials and space as needed.

    + Serve as a supportive adult presence and liaison during sessions, communicating needs and updates.

    + Observe and share student feedback or site dynamics that may impact program quality.

    + Record attendance and assist with administering feedback tools and surveys.

    + Support data entry and contribute to evaluation and reporting processes under the guidance of the Program Coordinator.

    Required Qualifications*

    + 2 or more years experience facilitating or assisting with youth programming in school, community or after-school settings

    + Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust and rapport with adolescents.

    + Comfortable leading interactive activities and discussions using prepared curriculum materials.

    + Reliable transportation and ability to work in person at multiple sites in the Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti area.

    + Ability to work independently on-site while maintaining regular communication with supervisors.

    + Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (e.g., instructional support, community education or facilitation roles)

    Desired Qualifications*

    + College coursework in education, public health, social work, psychology, youth development or related field.

    + Experience with social-emotional learning, youth leadership or career readiness programming.

    + Cultural responsiveness and demonstrated ability to work effectively with various populations.

    + Familiarity with basic data entry and survey platforms such as Qualtrics, Excel or Google Forms.

     

    Work Locations

     

    Work will be performed at multiple sites across teh Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti area.

     

    Modes of Work

     

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.     Additional Information

     

    This is a term-limited appointment. At the end of the term, the appointment will terminate and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits.

     

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

     

    In addition to the screenings indicated above under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
