    Job Summary

    The Glotzer Research Group Program Manager will work closely with the PI/Director and the Department of Chemical Engineering's administrative staff to hire staff, formulate and define infrastructure needs, prepare and submit research proposals, develop budgets, collect and analyze data, and prepare reports. This position will be the senior staff position within the Glotzer Group and will represent the PI and the PI's projects to other stakeholders with the authority to make commitments on administrative policies and procedures.

    Responsibilities*

    + 25% Provide operational management and high-level oversight for the Glotzer Research Group, exercising independent judgment in managing research space, establishing and monitoring work plan timelines, and deliverables. Independently manage planning and logistics for complex meetings and events, ensuring alignment with group goals and objectives.

    + 20% Act on behalf of the PI, representing the research group in communications with the Department of Chemical Engineering Research Administration team to research, prepare, coordinate and submit research proposals and reports.

    + 20% In collaboration with the Department of Chemical Engineering staff, design and oversee complex budgets and financial models to inform management decisions.Exercise discretion and independent judgment in monitoring and reporting on resource utilization, grant and financial tracking, and ensuring compliance with university and grant policies.Manage the Glotzer Research Group personnel/human resource functions. Initiate, review and approve staffing plans and personnel transactions.

    + 15% Lead and execute special duties/projects as assigned by the PI, utilizing advanced problem-solving skills and independent decision-making to accomplish project goals

    + 10% Prepare ad hoc reports and analysis, and provide recommendations to the PI.

    + 10% Manage the complex scheduling needs of the Glotzer Research Group, making autonomous decisions regarding priorities. Prepare and edit a wide variety of correspondence, manuscripts and reports to ensure accuracy, compliance, and clarity.

    + 5% Independently resolve operating problems and implement solutions, exercising sound judgment and discretion in addressing administrative or operational issues as they arise.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, skills, and professional experience.

    + 4 or more years of professional experience managing complex projects.

    + Demonstrated ability to manage complex administrative and logistical tasks.

    + Exceptional communication skills, with strengths in writing, editing, and engaging effectively with diverse stakeholders.

    + Proven success managing multiple priorities, deadlines, and concurrent projects.

    + High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and independent problem-solving.

    + Professionalism, reliability, discretion, and accountability.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Slack, Zoom.

    + Excellent writing and editing for professional communication and reporting.

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Experience in higher education, research, or familiarity with University of Michigan systems.

    + 5-7 years experience as a program or project manager.

    + Understanding of research lab or academic project workflows.

    + Experience supporting interdisciplinary or cross-functional teams.

    + Skill in managing stakeholder relationships and fostering team collaboration.
