    Job Summary

    The Director of Accounting plays a key leadership role in overseeing and advancing the company’s financial operations across all locations. This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial data while driving efficiency through process standardization, automation, and compliance initiatives. The Director will oversee all accounting functions including general ledger management, payroll operations, billing and collections, and audit readiness. As a bridge between the corporate finance team and field offices, this role requires strong leadership, exceptional organizational skills, and a deep understanding of multi-entity accounting.

    Responsibilities and Duties

    Accounting & Financial Oversight:

    + Oversee all aspects of corporate and field-level accounting, ensuring GAAP compliance and internal controls.

    + Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes with accuracy and efficiency.

    + Manage balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and consolidation of multi-location financial statements.

    + Maintain integrity of the general ledger and ensure timely financial reporting.

    Leadership & Team Development:

    + Supervise and mentor the accounting and bookkeeping team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.

    + Define clear performance objectives and conduct regular evaluations to promote continuous improvement.

    + Partner with Finance leadership to identify training needs and skill development opportunities within the department.

    + Lead departmental meetings and represent the Finance team at ownership-led leadership sessions.

    Payroll Operations:

    + Oversee accurate, compliant payroll processing for employees across multiple states.

    + Timely submission of payroll taxes, benefits deductions, and compliance with wage and hour laws.

    + Collaborate with HR to maintain proper employee classification, benefits deductions, and reporting.

    + Evaluate payroll software efficiency and identify process enhancements.

    Billing & Collections:

    + Direct the billing process for multiple revenue cycles, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

    + Establish standardized collection protocols and oversee aging reports to maintain strong cash flow.

    + Collaborate with Field Operations to minimize billing discrepancies and accelerate payment resolution.

    Liaison Between Locations & Bookkeepers:

    + Serve as the primary point of contact between office locations and the bookkeeping team.

    + Ensure consistency in financial procedures and reporting across all locations.

    + Identify and resolve discrepancies or operational inefficiencies.

    Process Improvement & Technology Integration:

    + Champion automation and modernization of accounting systems to improve accuracy and efficiency.

    + Optimize workflows within Sage Intacct, Paylocity, AxisCare and other financial platforms.

    + Develop and maintain standardized operating procedures for all accounting and bookkeeping functions.

    + Partner with Operations to integrate financial tools and analytics dashboards for enhanced visibility.

    Compliance and Audit:

    + Ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local tax laws, including multi-state filings.

    + Lead internal and external audit processes, ensuring documentation accuracy and readiness.

    + Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and reduce risk exposure.

    + Stay current on regulatory changes affecting payroll compliance.

    Strategic Financial Planning:

    + Provide insight and recommendations to support strategic decision-making and corporate planning.

    + Contribute to financial forecasting, budgeting, and performance analysis.

    + Identify cost-saving opportunities and operational efficiencies across locations.

    + Partner with the Senior Director of Finance on long-term initiatives such as system implementations, acquisitions, and integrations.

    + Qualifications & Experience:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (Master’s or CPA preferred).

    + Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a management or director-level role.

    + Proven experience managing multi-entity, multi-location accounting operations.

    + Strong proficiency in accounting and ERP software (e.g., QuickBooks Enterprise, NetSuite, Sage, or similar).

    + Knowledge of payroll platforms such as Paylocity, ADP, or Paycor.

    + In-depth understanding of GAAP, tax regulations, and audit best practices.

    + Exceptional analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.

    + Ability to thrive in a high-growth, fast-paced environment.
