    Reports to: Residential Manager

     

    Department: The Pines

     

    Compensation: $70,000 per year

Located in northern Westchester County, Shrub Oak offers unparalleled educational opportunities for autistic students in a family-centric, supportive environment. We offer a variety of programs to meet the needs of students across the spectrum, and our curriculum is based on the most advanced and successful evidence-based clinical and academic approaches in ASD education. The Pines at Shrub Oak is a 24-bed, coeducational, interim residential placement for students on the autism spectrum who may need significant psychiatric support and stabilization before transitioning

     

    to a less restrictive environment. Students at the Pines receive psychiatric services in addition to the academic and life skills instruction in a safe, supportive environment with a 2:1 student-to-staff ratio.

    Essential Functions:

    The Morning Supervisor is a year-round, full-time position. In collaboration with other members of The Pines leadership team, the Supervisor provides front-line administrative support for daily operations, while providing direct supervision to a team of Youth Care Specialists (YCS) who work a specific shared shift schedule. The Supervisor is responsible for guiding and mentoring a team of staff, ensuring appropriate supervision and support is maintained, assisting with emergency response procedures, and collaborating with all members of the Shrub Oak staff. The Supervisor works closely with colleagues to create/maintain an inclusive community and foster specific skill development to meet the individualized needs of Shrub Oak’s student population. The Supervisor will also hold shared responsibility for creating and maintaining a DBT milieu within The Pines, and

     

    will support the education team both in and out of the classroom, throughout the school day. Having access to confidential information regarding Shrub Oak and its students, discretion and independent judgment are required.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    + Provides oversight of the operations and programming for a designated shift schedule with a specific cohort of youth within The Pines.

    + Responsible for supporting the Residential Manager with scheduling of YCS staff, within their designated shift schedule, to ensure appropriate coverage

    + Provide regularly occurring individual and group supervision for assigned Youth Care Specialists

    + Work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary co-lead team to provide comprehensive care and treatment to students in the assigned cohort

    + Work closely with teachers, clinicians, recreation staff, and medical staff to ensure active staff involvement in therapeutic programming, group facilitation, and execution of interventions designed to help accomplish treatment goals

    + Work collaboratively with other program Managers and Supervisors to ensure optimal and cohesive programming and staffing coverage throughout The Pines

    + Provide support surrounding urgent matters, including staffing concerns and crisis management

    + Assist the education team throughout the school day, including providing in-class support and interventions, as well as working with students who struggle to remain in programming.

    + Assist the Residential Manager with hiring YCS staff for the assigned shift and student cohort

    + Work with the Residential Manager to mentor and orient new staff within the cohort and train others to perform those responsibilities for growth and development

    + Explain, enforce, and support all policies and procedures, ensuring an inclusive and

    respectful community that promotes self-advocacy, collaboration, and independence

    + Complete administrative tasks, including but not limited to assisting with move-in/move-out of students, orientation, maintenance requests, incident reports, and progress tracking

    + Attend to and report all emergencies and/or other situations requiring immediate attention in a timely manner to the appropriate staff member(s) in accordance with The Pines and Shrub Oak policies/procedures

    + Serve as a campus and community resource for students and staff by advising and

    providing guidance in planning programs, activities, and academic support

    + Attend all staff meetings and seminars as scheduled, including all staff orientation/training

    + Support other department responsibilities as needed and determined

    Requirements:

    Experience & Education:

    + High School Diploma and a relevant combination of post-secondary education and

    Experience in residential, psychiatric, or academic settings required; bachelor’s degree or higher preferred

    + Minimum 2 years of relevant professional and supervisory experience required

    + Previous experience working in special education and behavioral intervention required

    + DBT experience strongly preferred

    + Experience working with adolescents and young adults with psychiatric acuity and/or on the autism spectrum and/or students with developmental disabilities preferred

    + Experience managing, developing, and engaging staff preferred

    Skills & Abilities:

    + Exceptional written communication skills, specifically involving documentation, progress notes, incident reports, and other related administrative tasks

    + Exceptional verbal communication skills

    + Knowledge of administrative operations, processes, techniques, and procedures

    + Skilled in managing challenging behaviors and executing de-escalation techniques

    + Ability and willingness to learn new skills

    + Ability to display grit and resilience and maintain composure

    + Strong ability to build relationships with students and peers

    + Strong ability to process and retain information and to think critically and analytically duringa  crisis

    + Ability to multitask and make sound and appropriate decisions under pressure, where situations/circumstances are continually evolving

    + Demonstrated ability to succeed in a fast-paced, unpredictable environment

    + Ability to handle highly challenging behaviors, including those aggressive in nature

    + Ability to get TCIS trained and complete/maintain all required training

    + Ability to work flexible hours

    + Computer proficiency and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other software

    Physical Requirements/Demands:

    A workday regularly includes multiple or conflicting demands, deadlines, and time pressures; work regularly requires sustained concentration. Standing for sustained periods of time, bending, stretching, walking up and down stairs (building has 6 floors), and around a hilly campus as needed, may also require walking between floors or between buildings at a moment’s notice. May need to lift/move boxes up to 25 pounds and move or rearrange furniture.

    Work Environment:

    We are a boarding school located on a 127-acre campus. The work environment will include both indoor and outdoor spaces, mostly inside the classroom or educational environment. May include work within the residential setting. The building has 6 floors accessible by staircases and elevators.
