• Sr. Engineer - Protection & Relay

    US Tech Solutions (Charlotte, NC)


    Duration: 36+ Months

     

    Note: Full time, hybrid, 3 days/week in office. Some travel may be required; worker will be required to drive their personal vehicle with mileage reimbursed.

     

    **A bachelor’s in engineering and a PE is required for this role. Master's degree is not required but preferred** .

    Summary of desired experience:

    + Knowledge of wiring diagrams and schematics. Diagrams and schematics associated with DER site equipment are a plus. (relays, inverters, UPS systems, etc.).

    Job responsibility

    + Familiarity with testing and commissioning of protective circuits using Omicron and Doble test sets

    + Analyses and reporting of fault responses and breaker operations

    + Experience with hands-on troubleshooting and evaluation of equipment failures to determine root-cause and necessary resolution actions

    + Familiarity with microprocessor-based relaying

    + Familiarity with relay protection schemes and relay logic

    + Experience with relay settings calculations for protective relays associated with Inverter Based Resources

    + Interpret and develop relay logic with microprocessor-based relays

    + Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of routine problems in area of expertise.

    + Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees.

    + Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches associated with the resolution of routine technical problems.

    + Conducts basic engineering studies requiring little evaluation or ingenuity.

    + Possesses knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures.

    + Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.

    + Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.

    + They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is fairly complex and varied.

    + ≥ 10-15 years discipline experience and a unique SME skill

    + Experience in the utility industry.

    + Familiarity with Aspen Relay Database, Aspen OneLiner, CymTCC, SEL-5010, SEL-5030 AcSELerator software.

    + Understanding and experience with NERC Compliance Standards including but not limited to: PRC-006, PRC-023, PRC-025, PRC-026, PRC-027, CIP-010, CIP-002, FAC-008.

    + Familiarity with electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor-based relaying.

    + Familiarity with relay protection schemes and relay logic for a variety of applications (Transmission Line, Bus, Transformer, Breaker Failure, Capacitors, Etc.)

    + ≥ 15 years discipline experience and a unique SME skill.
