Position Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) will support the Healthcare Specialty Medical Prior Authorization department by processing and communicating specialty medication prior authorization (PA) requests. This role involves collaboration with physician offices, customer service, admissions, and pharmacy operations teams to ensure timely and accurate prior authorization processing. The LPN will handle inbound and outbound calls, process cases, and maintain detailed documentation in compliance with established standards and HIPAA regulations.

Key Responsibilities

+ Review criteria-based prior authorization requests according to policy and procedure.

+ Communicate prior authorization status to providers, pharmacies, and members.

+ Provide internal nurse support to the PA team and member services department.

+ Escalate cases not meeting criteria to Pharmacists or Medical Directors.

+ Manage multiple priorities and demonstrate urgency in handling calls and assignments.

+ Maintain accurate documentation and perform data entry, reporting, and follow-up communications.

+ Exhibit professional and courteous behavior in all phone and written interactions.

+ Complete additional assignments as delegated by the PA leadership team.

Experience Requirements

+ Minimum 1+ year of clinical experience in a healthcare or pharmacy-related environment.

+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.

+ Demonstrated problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and reliability.

+ Skilled in prioritizing workload in a fast-paced, call-driven environment.

+ Proficient in PC and phone-based systems for case management and documentation.

+ Ability to train and mentor other team members when needed.

Education & Licensing

+ Graduate of an accredited school of Practical or Vocational Nursing (approved by State Agency or NLNAC).

+ Must hold a full, active, and unrestricted LPN/LVN license in a U.S. State, Territory, or the District of Columbia.
