    Summary:

    At Meta Reality Labs, we are developing the future of Wearables and Mixed Reality products. This team focuses on developing display and optics technologies for Meta products, creating see-through display systems that seamlessly blend the real and virtual realms. The role involves designing architecture and display sub-systems for wearable glasses, developing and implementing test, characterization, metrology, and data solutions to support transparent display systems.We're seeking an experienced Engineer to join our Reality Labs team, where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of wearable systems. As a key member of our team, you'll explore innovative architectures and design spaces for wearable systems, develop and analyze system components, and drive detailed system-level analysis. In this role, you will be part of a dynamic environment where you will consistently switch between high-level thinking and meticulous attention to detail to mature our architectures and designs.

    Required Skills:

    Materials Engineer Responsibilities:

    1. Lead cross-functional teams in the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge optical solutions for new optics architectures, utilizing innovative materials and processes

    2. Identify, incubate, and productize optical technologies that have the potential to revolutionize the field of wearable optics

    3. Specify key performance metrics, test methods, and test requirements for optical components and systems

    4. Develop and maintain technical roadmaps

    5. Interface with stakeholders and leadership to influence product roadmaps

    6. Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor activity

    7. Manage budgets, resources, and collaborations with global vendors

    Minimum Qualifications:

    8. Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline

    9. 8+ years of industry experience with a proven track record of full product development cycle of Consumer Electronics

    10. Experience and expertise in these areas: optical design software, geometrical optics, wave optics, and polarization optics, optical materials, coatings, and manufacturing processes, Imaging optics design and manufacturing, display optics, optical sensing, optical system integration and testing

    11. Technical leadership, communication, and project management skills

    12. Problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills

    Preferred Qualifications:

    13. PhD in Materials Science, Optical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field

    14. Experience in thin film coatings and/or advanced optical materials development for high-volume manufacturing

    15. Experience with AR/VR display technologies, waveguides, or diffractive optics

    16. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative characterization methods, including adapting or inventing new approaches when standard tools are insufficient

    17. Proven track record of leading root cause analysis and troubleshooting for field failures using advanced chemical and physical analysis techniques

    18. Familiarity with consumer electronics manufacturing processes, supplier engagement, and mass production ramp

    19. Experience in one or more optical design tools such as Zemax, Code V, LightTools, FRED, or ASAP

    20. Experience with machine learning algorithms and their application to optical coating design and optimization

    21. Experience in manufacturing design for cost, quality control and statistical analysis using JMP, Matlab, Python, or similar programs

    Public Compensation:

    $170,000/year to $240,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
