Building & Grounds Maintenance Supervisor
Department: Buildings and Grounds
Status: Full-Time, Benefit-Eligible (40 hours per week)

POSITION SUMMARY
Morton County is seeking a skilled, dependable, and people-centered Building & Grounds Maintenance Supervisor to lead the maintenance and custodial operations of our County Courthouse, Law Enforcement Center, and surrounding grounds. This position blends technical expertise with strong leadership and communication skills.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, confident using technology, and skilled at leading a team of maintenance and custodial professionals. They take pride in keeping systems running smoothly, people working safely, and facilities operating at their best all while maintaining professionalism, fairness, and a sense of community pride.
This is both a hands-on and leadership position. The Supervisor oversees HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and custodial functions; manages facility projects; and ensures the comfort, safety, and operational integrity of County buildings serving both employees and citizens.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Provide leadership and direction to maintenance and custodial staff performing a wide range of technical and trade work.
+ Plan, schedule, and oversee building maintenance, mechanical systems, grounds care, and custodial operations.
+ Hire, train, and mentor employees, fostering teamwork, accountability, and professional growth.
+ Manage inspections, testing, and compliance records for fire safety, HVAC, electrical, and boiler systems.
+ Coordinate with contractors and vendors for repair and improvement projects.
+ Maintain accurate records, manage inventory, and make cost-effective purchasing and budget recommendations.
+ Oversee the operation of HVAC systems in coordination with Honeywell and ensure building comfort and efficiency.
+ Support safe working practices, respond to emergency maintenance situations, and model professionalism in every interaction.
QUALIFICATIONS
+ High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree or vocational training in electrical, plumbing, or construction technology preferred.
+ Minimum of five years of experience in skilled building, mechanical, maintenance, or construction work; two years in a supervisory or lead role preferred.
+ Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance systems.
+ Ability to interpret plans, read blueprints, and use technology to manage maintenance operations.
+ Experience working in a public or unionized environment is preferred.
+ Valid driver’s license required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is active and varied, both indoors and outdoors, across all seasons. The work involves physical effort, coordination, and attention to detail. The Supervisor may occasionally work evenings, weekends, or be on-call for emergency repairs.
