    The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for a Diesel Generator (Genset) Mechanic to support a customer on Maui, Hawai'i.

     

    The Diesel Generator (Genset) Mechanic is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of all generator systems supporting the 15th Space Surveillance Squadron (15 SPSS) under the Maui Base Support Services (MBSS) contract. This includes emergency and prime power generators at Building 550 (Kihei), the Remote Maui Experiment (RME) site, and the Maui Space Surveillance Complex (MSSC) atop the Summit of Haleakalā. The Generator Mechanic ensures 100% generator reliability through routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and prompt response to unscheduled outages, including after-hours emergency callouts.

    DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The individual will perform a variety of duties related to the operation and maintenance of diesel power generation engines (diesel genset) and equipment, such as but not limited to:

    + Operate, maintain, and repair diesel power generation systems and associated equipment.

    + Diagnose and repair malfunctions such as startup failures, fuel or control faults, and voltage regulation issues.

    + Replace or repair worn components (e.g., injectors, alternators, sensors, wiring harnesses) and verify system performance after repairs.

    + Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance in accordance with OEM standards, manufacturer guidance, and the MBSS Preventative Maintenance Program.

    + Perform operational testing, load testing, and system inspections including fluids, filters, batteries, heaters, exhaust, and control panels.

    + Record all inspections, maintenance actions, performance metrics, and outage reports per PWS documentation requirements.

    + Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental requirements for fuel storage, containment, spill prevention, and waste disposal.

    + Coordinate with electrical and mechanical teams for integrated repair efforts.

    + Respond to outages and restore generator operations within required performance standards.

    + Support contingency operations, emergency management drills, and power restoration efforts in accordance with the 15 SPSS Emergency Management Plan.

    + Update maintenance logs, load records, and corrective action reports in government tracking system.

    + Comply with OSHA 29 CFR 1910/1926, AFI 91-202 (Mishap Prevention), and AFFARS 5352.223-9001 (Health and Safety on Government Installations).

    + Follow safe work practices for fuel handling, electrical isolation, and lockout/tagout.

    + Maintain current certifications for confined space entry, spill response, and emergency power operations.

    + Maintain generator cabinets and equipment areas in clean and serviceable condition.

    + Safeguard all Government tools, materials, and property.

    + Provide guidance and training to newly assigned personnel.

    + Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

    + Work cooperatively with customers, teammates, and site leadership.

    + Perform other duties as assigned to support mission success.

    REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

    + High school diploma or equivalent

    + Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to Haleakalā Summit (10,000 ft elevation).

    + (Preferred) Associate degree or trade certification.

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

    + Minimum five (5) years of experience maintaining diesel generator systems up to 1MW.

    + Experience with Cummins, Caterpillar, or Kohler generator systems.

    + Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.

    + Ability to work after-hours, weekends, and holidays for emergency response.

     

    Environmental Factors: Works in indoor and outdoor environments that contain excessive heat, cold and humidity, excessive dampness, dust, solvents grease, oils, moving vehicles and slippery or uneven surfaces. Routinely will be working at over 10,000ft elevation.

     

    Physical Effort: Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally over fifty (50) pounds. Standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and stretching for prolonged periods will be necessary.

    DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

    + U.S. Military experience.

    + Experience supporting government contracts in remote or high-security government facilities.

    + Familiarity with Air Force or DoD facility maintenance standards.

    + Experience with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, Excel.

    + Experience with APIMs or NexGen

    REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

    + Must be a U.S. Citizen.

    + Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
