As a Mechanical Engineer, you will own the design and engineering lifecycle of complex mechanical assemblies, systems, and specialized tooling for large-format robotic 3D printing construction equipment. You will perform detailed engineering analyses using foundational hand calculations and advanced computational modeling to evaluate various aspects such as stress, deflection, and dynamic system behavior. Additionally, you will generate comprehensive engineering documentation and lead cross-functional design reviews, driving the selection and qualification of commercial components and materials.
Responsibilities
+ Own the design and engineering lifecycle of mechanical assemblies and systems.
+ Perform detailed engineering analyses including structural, thermal, and kinematic evaluations.
+ Generate 3D CAD models, detailed 2D drawings, and accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs).
+ Lead cross-functional design reviews and incorporate feedback from various teams.
+ Optimize designs for manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
+ Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to develop effective designs.
+ Work with Prototype Technicians and Manufacturing teams to troubleshoot and implement design updates.
+ Develop and execute verification and validation plans to ensure design integrity.
+ Identify risks and drive mitigation strategies using tools like FMEA.
+ Provide hands-on support for field deployment and analyze mechanical failures.
+ Manage engineering documentation within the Product Data/Lifecycle Management system.
+ Review and check drawings for accuracy and adherence to drafting standards.
+ Perform other related duties to support company goals and objectives.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
+ 5+ years of experience in mechanical design or product development, preferably involving robotics or large machinery.
+ Proficiency in SolidWorks and SolidWorks simulation (ANSYS experience is transferable).
+ Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 (GD&T) standards.
+ Experience with FEA and thermal analysis.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with PDM or PLM systems.
+ Experience in designing and troubleshooting fluid/hydraulic systems.
+ Ability to design hardware for use in harsh outdoor environments.
Work Environment
This position requires onsite work from 8 AM to 5 PM with flexibility for overtime. The company offers a great culture with a fun startup environment, paid time off for a shutdown week in December, and 10 paid holidays throughout the year.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Austin, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.
