Job Description: Quality Engineer
The Quality Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s quality management systems and processes. This position is vital for ensuring product reliability, manufacturability, and compliance with both customer and industry standards.
Responsibilities
+ Utilize the tools of APQP, including PPAP, FMEA’s, control plans, and capability studies.
+ Review and approve Supplier PPAP packages, with a clear understanding of Level 3 submission PPAP requirements.
+ Lead APQP and PPAP activities for internal and intra-company supplied parts, including Component Risk Assessments, DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Process Validation.
+ Interact with Supplier Development Engineers for purchased components.
+ Develop APQP plans for New Product Development (NPD) programs.
+ Develop the Supplier APQP workbook and ensure all critical states are entered into the Supplier Advanced Quality database in SharePoint.
+ Liaise with suppliers regularly to track the completion of tasks and APQP items.
+ Update the Supplier Advances Quality Database in SharePoint with component APQP progress.
+ Lead resolution of discrepancies to drive PPAP to full status.
+ Partner with Engineering to define verification and validation test requirements to support acceptance criteria.
+ Complete or contribute to the completion of final design verification and design validation test reports with clear conclusions.
+ Utilize statistical analysis and problem-solving techniques to determine product acceptance limits and resolve quality problems.
+ Track PPAP submissions and interim statuses.
+ Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Materials Science) or equivalent experience.
+ Minimum of 3 years of quality engineering experience, preferably in the automotive industry.
+ Strong knowledge of IATF, ISO standards, and automotive OEM customer requirements.
+ Proven experience in Design for Manufacturability and process reliability/validation.
+ Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings with a strong understanding of geometrical dimensioning and tolerance.
+ Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
+ Strong problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
+ Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
+ Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Familiarity with APQP/PPAP processes.
+ Experience in Supplier Quality Management.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Chicago, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $53.00/hr.
