THE POSITION
Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn Police Department and City policies and procedures. As experience is gained there is greater independence of action within established guidelines. This class is alternately staffed with Police Records Specialist II and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency, which meet the qualifications of the higher-level class.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and Application of:
Ability to learn laws, regulations, and departmental policies pertaining to records maintenance
Strong computer skills and ability to use records management software.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Basic business arithmetic.
Ability to Perform and Successfully Apply Skill In:
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
Arranging items or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules.
Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions and demonstrating intellectual capabilities.
Applying general rules to specific problems to produce effective solutions.
Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Type at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
Other Requirements:
Must be able to work after hours/weekends when necessary.
Must be able to successfully pass an extensive police background.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid, appropriate Class "C" California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
Possession of, or the ability to obtain by the end of the probationary period, the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) Certificate and the ability to maintain certification every two years.
Training and Experience
Any combination of training and experience that provides the above listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way of qualifying would be:

CANDIDATE SELECTION PROCESS

2. Examination Phase : Based upon the information presented on the application, a limited number of candidates who possess qualifications most pertinent to the position will be invited to participate in the selection process. The selection process may include but is not limited to the following components: application review and evaluation, written examination or exercise, and interview evaluation.
3. Establishment of Eligibility List: Candidates who successfully complete the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list pending further review by the department head and other qualifying procedures.
