Job Description:
The primary focus of this role is to develop innovative products for vital customers in industrial manufacturing industries such as heavy equipment, transportation, and infrastructure fabrication.
Essential Functions:
+ Develop new formulations for tubular welding wire and covered electrode products according to product development specifications. Create new formulations utilizing the _Theory and Methods of Metallurgical Process_ , often through trial and error, and performing various chemistry and mechanical properties testing.
+ Perform and create reports on product evaluations and benchmark comparisons.
+ Must be willing to visit customers to gain a deep understanding of pain points, specifically by finding methods to improve overall throughput in a customer’s operation.
+ Ability to perform certain applications engineering tasks.
+ Assist in market research and manufacturing operations. Develop deep market understanding and customer knowledge through years of involvement in the business process.
+ Support manufacturing operation to ensure consistent quality is achieved in the plant every day.
+ Will provide manufacturing support for product and raw material issues that will require prompt attention and interaction with plant personnel at all levels.
+ Manage key development projects through multiple stages of the CBI/NPD cycle.
+ Communicate with sales, marketing, operations, applications, product management, and quality department daily.
This position may require 10-15% travel, both domestic and international.
Compensation Information:
+ Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical / Materials Engineering or Welding Engineering with a Master’s degree preferred.
+ 5 years of relevant work experience.
+ Must be willing to perform both R&D and Applications functions.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
+ Must be able to interact with customers to provide product data and solve technical problems, as well as gain an understanding of customer problems/issues.
+ Will be responsible for releasing and maintaining engineering documents in the manufacturing facilities where accuracy is paramount
+ Must be a hands-on, aggressive, team player, a self-starter. Possess the flexibility to effectively address a wide range of technical challenges
+ Study and background in scientific experimentation and Design of Experiments, rooted in a practical effort to solve real-world problems
+ Able to lead by influence rather than direct authority and function as part of a dynamic multi-disciplined technical and market-facing team
+ Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and organizational skills
+ Manage multiple tasks, with potential for project leadership roles
