Position Description

This Full-Time, Non-Civil service position in the Head Start program located with the Metropolitan Action Commission includes medical, dental, pension and other insurance benefits.

Work hours: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM

***Extensive Background Checks and random drug tests are performed on applicants for this position with MAC.

Typical Duties

+ Assist classroom teacher

+ Serve as a bus monitor

+ Help children develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally

+ Plan, document, and implement daily lesson plans and special activities

+ Perform tasks associated with the education component and assure confidentiality

+ Maintain proper supervision of children at all times indoors and outdoors

+ Document and implement integration of component events in the classroom (i.e., handwashing, toileting, tooth brushing, preparing children for health services and community visits)

+ Report any children concerns to the (assigned) Parent, Family, Community,and Engagement Advocate

+ Report suspected child abuse or neglect to the immediate supervisor

+ Insure daily implementation of the family style food service

+ Support and assist volunteers serving in the education program

+ Assume other task-related duties as requested

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and willing to be enrolled in a CDA Program. Valid Driver License.

*High School Diploma or General Education Equivalent must be accepted by the State of Tennessee and recognized by a higher education accreditor.*

Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

+ Previous work experience with young children

+ CDA or AA degree in Early Childhood Education
