Position Description
The Metro Public Health Department is seeking a Program Specialist to support public health initiatives aimed at reducing the impact of substance use, violence, and other behavioral health challenges in the community. This role will contribute to the design, delivery, and evaluation of prevention and intervention strategies focused on substance misuse, violence prevention, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and ideation-related concerns.

Typical Duties
+ Support the implementation and evaluation of public health programs related to behavioral health, violence prevention, and community wellness.
+ Collect, track, and maintain sensitive program data while ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
+ Engage with subject matter experts and evidence-based practices to inform prevention strategies.
+ Stay informed on trends and developments in substance use, violence prevention, ACEs, and mental health.
+ Provide referrals and assist individuals and families in accessing resources that support safety, well-being, and recovery.
+ Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, service providers, and stakeholders to enhance program reach and effectiveness.
+ Develop and deliver outreach materials, presentations, and public education campaigns as needed.
+ Participate in training, continuing education, and other professional development opportunities.
+ Perform general administrative tasks in support of program operations.
Minimum Qualifications
+ A combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the responsibilities of the position. Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and/or five (5) years of professional experience in public health, social work, behavioral health, or a related field.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Knowledge of behavioral health, social services, public health frameworks, and trauma-informed approaches.
+ Experience working in areas related to substance use and misuse, violence prevention, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and ideation.
+ Understanding of our connection to local communities and populations most affected by behavioral health disparities.
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work with diverse populations.
+ Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and contribute to program planning and improvement.
+ Capacity to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
Full-time, Civil Service positions -
