Job Summary
The Georgia Department of Education - Federal Programs (Migrant Education) is recruiting for a Migrant Education Resource Specialist Under general supervision this position coordinates and monitors the delivery of services (both direct and indirect) for Migrant Education Programs (MEP) to eligible migrant students age 3 to 21 (who have not graduated high school) through local education agencies (LEA) in an assigned geographical region. Duties include but are not limited to:
Job Duties
+ Communicate and work closely with school district staff in assigned regional area to develop and provide meaningful academic support, both verbally and in writing
+ Provide advice and career counseling to migrant child r en and youth
+ Make regular on-site visits to school-based staff to evaluate and plan delivery of M E P funded services
+ Meet with school-level certified staff to coordina t e MEP funded services with other support service programs and providers
+ Develop and deliver staff development sessions for staff in regional area systems unfamiliar with migrant student and out-of-school youth needs
+ Provide best teaching practices for improving migrant student achievement
+ Assist in the identification and delivery of services to studen ts with " priority for services;"
+ Monitor and assist in the maintenance of records of services provided to eligible students in regional area
+ Provide out-of-school migrant students with academic assistance option s within the community
+ Assist eligible migrant youth in enrolling in educational programs
+ L iaison to agencies and organizations established to serve adolescent migrants and their families
+ Prepare program reports as required and performing other d u tie s a s assigned
+ This position involves travel within an assigned geographic region and occasional statewide travel. This position also requires availability to work flexible hours , including evenings · and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
+ Georgia Teaching Certification
+ Masters Degree in education or a related field, ESOL endorsement,
+ 3 or more years of teaching limited English proficient students,
+ Experience working with Latino students and families
+ Bilingual in Spanish and English
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent organizational skills,
+ Demonstrated ability to successfully collaborate with school personnel, staff, students, and other support agencies,
+ Demonstrated competency in self-motivation/initiative, and experience teaching and/or counseling high school-age youth

High school diploma/GED and four (4) years of program management experience; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower level Education Prgm Spec 1 (EDP030) or position equivalent.
