Position Summary
Nebraska Public Power District is looking for an electrical engineering student to work with and assist other experienced Telecom engineering staff in evaluations, functional analysis, compatibility analysis, design, security, testing, deployment, planning, and project coordination for existing and new Telecommunications and IT products. The position provides an introduction to engineering technical support, project engineering and development, strategic planning, engineering analysis, maintenance and operational support, and engineering design.
Education, Training and Experience
The student must be working toward an associate or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. The intern must be enrolled in an accredited two-year or four-year college/university carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have completed a minimum of 1 year of college credit. The internship/training must be in the student's field of study. College credit may apply to some internships.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Participates in and assists with Engineering Studies, Modification or New Design Projects, Operations and Maintenance Support - Performance of a variety of specific tasks within each of the primary responsibility areas to gain and demonstrate a general understanding of the process involved, a general understanding of the electric utility industry, the ability to manage personal performance, a general understanding of economic/accounting principles, and an ability to complete single task assignments with supervision, prepare design calculations, obtain field data, utilize drawings, develop design requirements, prepare design calculations, and develop drawings and material lists.
Research and develop work packages to install, configure, and enhance the District's Telecommunications networks. Work may include data networking (routers/switches/firewalls), transport equipment (fiber optics/point-to-point wireless), substation communications needs, and/or backup battery systems. Learn about and develop further knowledge in the operations, maintenance, and monitoring needs of the networks the District supports.

Salary
Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary listed in posting, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.
Retirement Savings
NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date. Our retired employees are eligible for retiree healthcare benefits as well as a life benefit paid out to designated beneficiaries upon their passing.
