    Description

    **Description of Duties:** The School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS) at Stony Brook University invites applications for a part-time adjunct faculty position to teach GSS 313/513 (GIS Design and Application I, 3 credits) and GSS 314 (GIS Laboratory, 1 credit) for the Spring 2026 semester.

     

    The successful candidates will have a strong commitment to teaching, and will teach classes at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels, as well as mentor students.

     

    **Special Notes:** This is a non-tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.

    **School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences** : The School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS) is the State University of New York's center for marine and atmospheric research, education, and public service. It is also the home of the university’s Sustainability Studies Program. Approximately 800 graduate and undergraduate students currently work and study at SoMAS. The SoMAS Faculty are internationally known for their leadership in research in atmospheric sciences, all the major disciplines of oceanography – biological, chemical, geological, and physical – and sustainability studies. http://www.somas.stonybrook.edu .

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    Master’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) or Graduate Certificate in Geography, GIS or related field.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Experience teaching undergraduate and / or graduate level courses in geography, GIS, or related field. Experience in course and curriculum development. Experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students. Experience providing instruction in an asynchronous online environment.
