Job Description
**AECOM TechWorks** has supported our customers in some of their most challenging times. We’ve helped both public and private sector clients collect, manage, process, store, and exploit data for thousands of damaged structures, hundreds of thousands of square miles of imagery, dozens of critical infrastructure components, implemented AI solutions for internal and external clients, and deployed solutions across mobile, desktop, and browser-based platforms. We are seeking a technically adept and highly organized **Project Manager for Applied AI Engineering** to lead and coordinate innovative AI initiatives. This role is designed for a civil engineering candidate with a strong foundation in machine learning, computer vision, and engineering systems, combined with demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects from concept to deployment.
This is a remote position open to qualified candidates already located within the continental United States and will be tied to the TechWorks core office in Germantown, MD. The expectation of the candidate selected for this position is that they will work collaboratively with the team by utilizing Microsoft Teams, JIRA, Confluence and other collaboration and development tools.
Responsibilities
AI Technical Innovation
+ Contribute to the development of reusable frameworks and best practices for applied AI.
+ Oversee the integration of applied ML and computer vision technologies into civil engineering workflows.
+ Translate complex technical concepts into actionable project plans and deliverables.
+ Support the deployment of AI systems in operational environments, including cloud-based platforms and field-ready hardware.
+ Identify opportunities to streamline project workflows and improve delivery efficiency.
+ Support the adoption of modern MLOps practices, data pipelines, and orchestration tools.
Project Leadership & Execution
+ Manage the planning, execution, and delivery of AI-focused engineering projects, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and sponsor expectations.
+ Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource plans across multiple concurrent initiatives.
+ Coordinate cross-functional teams including data scientists, software engineers, domain experts, and external partners.
+ Lead project meetings, track milestones, manage risks, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality outcomes.
+ Serve as the primary point of contact for internal leadership and external clients, providing regular updates and managing expectations.
+ Prepare and deliver briefings, reports, and demonstrations to communicate progress, challenges, and impact.
+ Facilitate collaboration within and across business lines and with client organizations.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
+ BA/BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field +6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
+ Project management or technical leadership roles and experience, in AI, ML, and data-driven engineering environments.
+ ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), and orchestration tools (Docker, Airflow) experience.
+ Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship or Green Card is required.
Preferred Qualifications
+ PhD degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
+ Experience in wide range of civil engineering domains such including water infrastructure, structural inspection, and transportation systems.
+ Hands-on experience with applied ML, computer vision, or emerging technologies like NeRFs or LLMs.
+ PMP or Agile certification is a plus.
+ Comfortable working across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
+ Excellent verbal and written skills.
+ Demonstrated experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and delivering project success.
+ Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage ambiguity and drive clarity.
Additional Information
+ This position does not offer relocation assistance.
+ Sponsorship for US Employment Authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $150,000.00 - $180,000.00.
