Manufacturing Engineer – Process, Production, and Technology
The Manufacturing Engineer role may be focused on one of three areas: Process, Production, or Technology. Each specialization plays a critical role in driving manufacturing excellence through innovation, efficiency, and quality.
Process
Responsible for designing and developing innovative, cost-effective manufacturing techniques and procedures. This includes:
+ Developing, maintaining, and continuously improving processes using LEAN methodologies.
+ Establishing standards and implementation plans, including training for shop floor personnel and production metrics.
+ Collaborating with Engineering and Manufacturing Technology to ensure effective process development for new products and capturing lessons learned from existing processes.
Production
Leads the implementation of manufacturing processes and LEAN/Six Sigma tools. Key responsibilities include:
+ Ownership of manufacturing processes and standards.
+ Training shop floor personnel and monitoring performance metrics.
+ Troubleshooting complex manufacturing issues related to quality and production yield.
Technology
Focuses on identifying, developing, and implementing next-generation manufacturing technologies. Responsibilities include:
+ Creating a technological roadmap for new and existing products.
+ Leading process development from concept through successful implementation.
Lean Six Sigma
Implement key Lean elements: standardized work instructions, line balancing, layout and routing optimization, training matrices, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen/5S, pull systems, TPM, cell design, and quick changeover/batch-size optimization.
+ Drive continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing processes.
Other Responsibilities
+ Improve process yield, reduce cycle time, and enhance productivity.
+ Provide feedback on product design and manufacturability to Engineering and DFMs via Engineering Change Requests (ECRs).
+ Review and approve Engineering Change Orders affecting inventory and product lifecycle.
+ Develop and monitor KPIs for process capability and product quality.
+ Reduce process costs and benchmark best-in-class techniques.
+ Plan and execute pilot testing and scale-up for new technologies.
+ Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing Métiers during process prove-out.
+ Support DFM engineers on technology constraints for NPD and RR projects.
+ Share and leverage best practices across the organization.
Quality
Investigate and resolve manufacturing quality issues through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
+ Ensure manufacturing technologies meet required quality, reliability, and consistency standards.
Minimum Requirements
+ Bachelor’s degree in industrial or mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience in a technical manufacturing role.
+ Strong understanding of mechanical systems for interpreting schematics, troubleshooting, and standardizing processes.
+ Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
+ Effective communicator across all levels—from technicians to executives.
+ Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
