    Job Overview

     

    The Custodial / Facility Technician is responsible for the cleanliness, general upkeep, and appearance of buildings and grounds on the site. This includes routine custodial tasks, maintaining restrooms and break rooms, trash removal, and assisting with general maintenance or 'light trades' tasks (painting, bulb changes, snow removal, leaf cleanup, etc.). The role may also respond to unplanned events (e.g. spills, emergency cleanups, minor repairs) and support periodic deep‑cleaning projects.

    Key Responsibilities

    Custodial / Cleaning / Daily Tasks

    + Clean offices, hallways, stairwells, entryways, lobbies, break rooms, restrooms, etc.

    + Sanitize surfaces, wash windows, clean mirrors, dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, strip & wax floors (as needed).

    + Empty trash and recycling, replace liners, manage waste disposal.

    + Maintain cleaning supplies, report stock levels, and order restocking as needed.

    + Deep‑cleaning tasks periodically (e.g. shampooing carpets, pressure washing, wall washing).

    Maintenance / Facility Support Tasks

    + Change light bulbs, ballasts, fluorescent tubes, LED replacements.

    + Perform minor painting or touch‑ups on walls, door frames, trim.

    + Keep windows and glass partitions clean (interior and exterior when safely accessible).

    + Leaf blowing, sweeping, debris removal from walkways, sidewalks, entrances.

    + Snow removal and salting / de‑icing around entrances and walkways (during winter).

    + Respond to spills, leaks, broken glass, or other unanticipated cleaning or maintenance issues.

    + Assist with periodic facility inspections and minor repairs (e.g. drywall patching, minor carpentry, caulking).

    + Maintain equipment (e.g. vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, pressure washers), schedule or perform preventive maintenance.

    Safety, Quality, and Compliance

    + Follow safety procedures, use PPE, manage chemical handling per SDS guidelines.

    + Report facility hazards (e.g. leaks, broken fixtures, structural issues) to supervisor.

    + Ensure compliance with company, environmental, and regulatory standards.

    + Maintain documentation of work completed, hours, supplies used, and repairs/requests.

    Other Duties

    + Perform special projects or assist other trades as requested.

    + Occasional weekend or off‑shift availability for emergency response.

    + Cross‑training or backup coverage for other facility roles when needed.

    Key Skills & Competencies

    + Ability to operate cleaning and facility equipment such as floor scrubbers, vacuums, and pressure washers

    + Basic trade and maintenance skills, including painting, electrical bulb replacement, and minor repairs

    + Strong attention to detail and pride in work quality

    + Ability to work independently and manage time effectively

    + Good communication skills, reliability, and strong work ethic

    + Basic understanding of HVAC, plumbing, or electrical systems (helper level acceptable)

    + Knowledge of equipment safety and chemical handling (OSHA/MSDS awareness)

    + Ability to respond to emergencies or unplanned events promptly and professionally

    Qualifications

    + **Education** : High school diploma or equivalent (preferred but not always required)

    + **Experience** : Prior custodial, janitorial, or general maintenance experience preferred

    + **Languages** : Good communication skills and ability to understand written and verbal instructions

    Physical and Environmental Conditions

    + **Work Environment** :

    + Indoor and outdoor work; exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, wet surfaces, and weather conditions

    + May require overtime, off-hours, or emergency response

    + Use of ladders or lifts for elevated work tasks

    + **Lifting Requirements** : Must be physically capable of standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs (or more with assistance)
