    Job Description

    Are you someone who thrives in investigative work, enjoys problem-solving, and values integrity and fairness? The Department of Administrative Services (DAS) is seeking anEmployee Relations Investigatorto lead personnel investigations into sensitive workplace matters — including harassment, discrimination, retaliation, sexual harassment, and workplace violence.

     

    In this role, you’ll help ensure a respectful, safe, and compliant work environment for State of Iowa employees. You’ll work closely with the Employee Relations Coordinator to assess and resolve employee complaints, conduct detailed interviews, and prepare clear, fact-based reports that inform critical HR decisions.

    What You’ll Do

    + Manage multiple employee relations investigations from start to finish, ensuring fairness, timeliness, and accuracy.

    + Conduct interviews with complainants, witnesses, and respondents to gather key facts.

    + Analyze complex information to draw well-supported, policy-based conclusions.

     

    Prepare concise, professional reports summarizing findings and applicable policy considerations.

     

    + Maintain accurate documentation and ensure all investigative materials are filed and stored appropriately.

    + Collaborate with the Employee Relations Coordinator and agency representatives to review outcomes and support next steps.

    + Maintain strict confidentiality and objectivity throughout every investigation.

    + Provide testimony in administrative or court proceedings, as needed.

    + Assist with special projects and assignments at the direction of the DAS Director or General Counsel.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

    Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

    + Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree and experience equal to four years of full-time work in one or more professional-level human resources management areas such as employment, recruitment, position classification, compensation, labor relations, collective bargaining, safety, worker's compensation, wellness, and benefits administration.

    + A combination of a total of eight years of education and full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work equals one year of full-time experience.

    + Graduation from an accredited law school.

    + Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes three and a half years of full-time work as a Human Resources Professional 1.
