Job Summary:
This position will serve as the primary coordinator for ongoing clinical trials while contributing to all aspects of the research process, from study design through dissemination. Key expectations include maintaining high standards for data quality and regulatory compliance, proactive communication with research teams and collaborators, and developing independent grant writing skills to support long-term career development and program sustainability. Priority will be given to essential study operations and regulatory compliance, with additional responsibilities in grant writing, manuscript preparation, and administrative support scaling with increased FTE allocation. This flexible approach allows for strategic growth of the role as funding opportunities develop. While the role reports to the Trauma Injury Prevention program manager, there will be direct support and direction from the Firearm Injury Prevention Task Force leadership team, specifically Dr. Kelsey Gastineau and Dr. Heather Kreth.

Key Responsibilities:
Research Study Management
+ Oversee day-to-day operations of 2 active clinical trials
+ Recruit, screen, and enroll study participants
+ Coordinate study visits and data collection protocols
+ Ensure protocol adherence and study timeline compliance
+ Manage study documentation and regulatory files
+ Interview transcription and qualitative coding
+ Survey development and validation
Data Management & Analysis
+ Build and maintain REDCap databases for studies
+ Perform quality assurance checks on study data
+ Develop statistical analysis plans in collaboration with biostatisticians
+ Conduct preliminary data analyses and generate reports
+ Create data visualizations and summary tables
Grant Writing & Funding Development
+ Identify relevant funding opportunities (federal, foundation, industry)
+ Draft grant proposals, including specific aims, methods, and budgets
+ Prepare supporting materials (letters of support, biosketches, etc.)
+ Submit applications and manage grant administration requirements
+ Write progress reports and renewals for existing funding
Scientific Writing & Dissemination
+ Co-author manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications
+ Prepare abstracts for scientific conferences
+ Draft presentations for research meetings and conferences
+ Maintain publication tracking and impact metrics
Regulatory Compliance & IRB Management
+ Prepare and submit IRB applications and modifications
+ Ensure ongoing compliance with human subjects regulations
+ Manage informed consent processes
+ Handle adverse event reporting and safety monitoring
Administrative & Collaborative Activities
+ Provide administrative support for firearm injury prevention taskforce
+ Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and follow-up materials
+ Serve as liaison with other VUMC researchers and departments
+ Coordinate multi-site collaborations and data sharing agreements
+ Maintain research calendars and project timelines
General Research Assistant Duties
+ Literature reviews and evidence synthesis
+ Reference management and citation formatting
+ Budget tracking and expense reporting
+ Equipment and supply inventory management
+ Training coordination for research staff and students
Project Management Responsibilities
+ Develop project timelines and milestone tracking
+ Coordinate cross-functional team meetings
+ Stakeholder communication and reporting
Job Requirements:
+ Master’s degree in public health, education, community health, human services, social work, or a related field
+ Prior experience in public speaking, education, and conducting presentations
+ Requires excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
+ Experience with Microsoft Office suite, critical thinking, problem solving, data analysis, and grant writing skills
+ Requires a well-organized individual with an excellent capacity for effective time management.
