We are seeking an **_Ophthalmic Technician_** who will support the Ophthalmologist by conducting ocular examinations and diagnostic testing, as well as assisting with overall clinical operations.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Obtain and concisely record an accurate patient history, including chief complaint, past ocular history, family history, systemic illness, medications, allergies and drug reactions, and social history.
+ Perform elements of the preliminary eye exam and ancillary testing:
+ Measure visual acuity at distance and near utilizing test appropriate for age and education and record accurately. Perform pinhole testing when indicated.
+ Perform and record Ishihara or HRR color vision testing, Amsler grid testing, and Schirmer testing.
+ Accurately measure and record current lens power with a lensometer.
+ Evaluate pupillary reactions, including afferent pupillary defects.
+ Perform basic slit lamp exams, including evaluation of anterior chamber depth.
+ Measure and record intraocular pressure using Goldmann applanation, Tono-pen, or iCare tonometry.
+ Properly operate common non-automated and automated ophthalmic equipment including, but not limited to: IOL Master, brightness acuity testing (BAT), potential acuity meter (PAM), autorefractor, corneal pachymeter, Humphrey visual field, Goldmann visual field, ocular coherence tomography (OCT).
+ Assist physician chairside as a scribe.
_Patient Services_
+ Apply proper ocular dressings and shields.
+ Properly instill eye drops, following divisional protocols.
+ Properly assist physically or visually disabled patients.
+ Assist with pre- and post-op care, including possible surgical assistance with outpatient procedures.
_Instrument Maintenance_
+ Perform routine instrument maintenance on all ophthalmic equipment.
+ Stock examination rooms in assigned area
+ Ensure medication expiration dates are current.
+ Disinfect and maintain examination rooms and equipment.
+ Possess general medical knowledge, including basic microbial control, ocular anatomy and physiology, systemic diseases, ocular diseases, and ocular emergencies.
_Must complete currently required JHMI courses and abide by relevant regulations, such as_
+ Self-learning educational packets
+ HIPAA regulations
+ Conflict of Interest
+ Annual Review paperwork.
+ Training in software such as Epic and Forum.
+ Other duties that may be assigned (back-office support, medical records coordination)
Minimum Qualifications
+ High School Diploma or graduation equivalent
+ One year experience as an Ophthalmic Technician. Must obtain Certified Ophthalmic Asst (COA) from JCAHPO within 18 months of start date. CPR certification also required.
+ Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
