Position Summary
HIGHLIGHTS
The SUNY Geneseo Facilities Department is looking for a reliable and dedicated individual to join their team as a Maintenance Assistant.
In this position, you’ll be responsible for assisting the Lock shop in maintaining campus security with a variety of locksmith tasks. These tasks include:
+ maintaining and replacing lock & keying system
+ cutting keys
+ installing, repairing, adjusting, and maintaining electronic door locking devices
+ following troubleshooting procedures for identifying defects
Required Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of full-time experience in locksmith work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of a two-year technical school course in locksmithing at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services*; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses in locksmithing at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
DEPARTMENTAL OPERATING NEEDS
+ Working knowledge of fire safety systems and door access control systems
+ Ability to complete basic building, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs
+ Ability to understand and follow instructions and read, write, and communicate.
+ Record of dependability and past work performance, including a satisfactory time and attendance record.
+ Possession of computer skills adequate to work with computerized maintenance management systems and other computerized applications as assigned.

Function 1: Installation and Maintenance of the Lock and Key System
+ Make necessary adjustments to lock and cut keys as necessary
+ Computer changes to lock and key changes to avoid duplication of combinations.
+ Record changes in tracking system
+ Perform a variety of routine carpentry tasks related to lock and key systems
+ Install, repair, adjust and maintain electronic door locking devices and controls

+ Assist with campus low/medium voltage equipment and systems
+ Assist with maintenance and repair of any/or combination of doors, walls, windows, ceilings, roofs, counters, cabinets, flooring, furniture, millwork, glass, etc.
+ Assist with campus plumbing maintenance and repair

+ Assist with maintenance and repair of access control system

+ Assist in testing electronic components and circuits by following troubleshooting procedures to locate defects in the system
+ Replace or repair defective components and wiring, run conduit, and adjust mechanical parts
+ Perform preventative maintenance on equipment
+ Assist in maintaining proper record keeping of repairs, calibrations, and tests made
+ Order and inventory necessary parts for repairs and/or replacement
