Position Summary
HIGHLIGHTS
SUNY Geneseo is seeking a new team member to join our Facilities Services department as a Service & Repair Mechanic (Electronics). In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, service, and repair of electronic equipment for the campus. You’ll be responsible for responding to calls in a timely fashion and assisting the campus professionally and efficiently.

We are accepting applicants for NYS HELPS appointments; you do not need to be on the Service & Repair Mechanic (Electronics) list to be appointed. You must meet the qualifications as outlined in the “Required Qualifications” section.
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
Required Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must have permanent appointment in a Service & Repair Mechanic (Electronics), SG-12 classified position or be reachable for appointment on the current NY State Civil Service canvass list for a Service & Repair Mechanic (Electronics), SG-12, or be transfer eligible.
For NYS HELPS Eligibility
You must meet ONE of the following qualifications:
+ Four years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment; OR
+ An associate degree in a related field and two years experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment
Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.

DEPARTMENTAL OPERATING NEEDS
+ Ability to communicate verbally, read, and write
+ Possession of a New York State drivers license
+ Ability to satisfactorily perform the job duties associated with this position as outlined under Job Duties/Responsibilities

Function 1: Campus Fire Alarm and Sprinkler Systems
+ Test electronic components and circuits following troubleshooting procedures to locate defects in systems
+ Replace or repair defective components, wiring, and running conduit as necessary
+ Adjust mechanical parts
+ Adjust and calibrate equipment to meet manufacturer’s specifications
+ Perform preventative maintenance on equipment as required
+ Maintain proper records of repairs, calibrations and tests made
+ Order and inventory necessary materials and parts for repairs and or replacements

Function 2: Campus Door Electronic Card Access Systems
+ Test electronic components of circuits following troubleshooting procedures to locate defects in the system
+ Replace or repair defective components, wiring and as necessary, adjust mechanical parts
