    Senior Flight Nurse – Pediatric Nurse Educator - Airlift Northwest

    WORK SCHEDULE

    + 100% FTE, Variable Shifts.

    RESPONSIBLE TO: Assistant Director of Education

    **DESCRIPTION** : The Pediatric Nurse Educator is responsible for collaborating with the Medical Director, Assistant Directors, flight staff, dispatchers and pilots to development an initial training and ongoing education program to meet the dynamic needs of the patients transported by Airlift Northwest. Responsibilities include: development of initial training program for new flight nurse staff, development on ongoing education program for flight nurse staff, development of preceptor program, act as clinical resource for flight nurse staff. The Nurse Educator will be responsible for documenting: initial training program, ongoing education program, certification requirements, and skills requirements for flight nurse staff. The Nurse Educator will be responsible for coordinating PALS, NRP and Trauma programs, an advanced airway lab. Ensure that Airlift Northwest meets national standards in the areas of orientation and continuing education.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

    1. **Educational Resource for Patient Care**

     

    Collaborates with Medical Director, Assistant Directors, flight staff and other members of the transport team to support provision of safe, quality patient transport.

     

    Through educational activities promote creative approaches to patient transport based on the dynamic health care delivery environment and nursing care and practice standards. Supports efforts to assure that all staff function competently within the appropriate scope of practice.

     

    2. **Orientation**

     

    Plans, implements, documents and evaluates components of the nursing orientation program designed to achieve desired competencies and knowledge needed by new flight staff to transport critically ill or injured patients. This includes both the didactic and clinical components of orientation. Ensures that Airlift Northwest meets all national standards in the area of orientation.

     

    3. **Staff Development/Continuing Education**

     

    Promotes and supports an environment that fosters continued learning and professional development. Collaborates with the Education Committee to meet this goal.

     

    Plans, implements, documents and evaluates staff development/inservice offerings to enable flight staff to develop and maintain the required competencies to provide safe, quality transport of critically ill or injured patients. Ensures that Airlift Northwest meets all national standards in the area of continuing education.

     

    4. **Quality Assessment & Improvement**

     

    Participates in development and implementation of quality assessment and improvement programs within Airlift Northwest.

     

    5. **Team Building/Communications**

     

    Develops and maintains relationships with the Medical Director, Nursing Management, and all members of the transport team.

     

    6. **Leadership/Organizational Support**

     

    Participates in departmental policy and procedure development and interpretation for members of the transport team. Contributes to recommendations, implementation and evaluation of change compatible with Airlift Northwest objectives. Contributes to the development of the nursing leadership team on an individual and group basis.

     

    7. **Professional Development**

     

    Demonstrates professional responsibility and leadership through participation in Airlift Northwest, Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington Medical Center and professional activities. Demonstrates responsibility for own professional growth through pursuit of work related experiences and educational opportunities.

     

    8. **Fiscal Responsibility**

     

    Provides input into Airlift Northwest budget planning process. Identifies and explores ways to support a cost-effective environment for the orientation and education of staff and the delivery of nursing care during transport.

     

    + **Flight skills**

    + **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** 1. Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Washington.2. BSN degree. Master’s degree preferred.3. Five years of critical care nursing experience of neonatal, pediatric patients.4. Two years of Airlift Northwest flight nurse experience, preferably in both rotary wing and fixed wing aircraft.5. Demonstrated ability to organize and teach educational offerings.6. Instructor in BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NRP preferred.

    Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

    Pay Range Minimum:

    $98,448.00 annual

    Pay Range Maximum:

    $178,824.00 annual

    Other Compensation:

    $1/hour BSN premium

    $1.25/hour nursing certification premium

    $4.50/hour nights

    $4/hour week-ends
