    Job Summary

    Hourly Research Assistants

     

    Support a 12-month pilot on ski-tech exposures ( VOC /PM) across Utah ski resorts and retail shops. Positions are hourly, non-benefited, supervised by Runcheng Fang with mentorship from Dr. Darrah Sleeth.

     

    **Location & schedule:** Wasatch Front field sites; heavier hours Nov–Mar (field season), lighter analysis/writing in shoulder months; paid training provided; mileage reimbursed per university policy.

    Responsibilities

    Core Responsibilities:

    **Industry outreach & site coordination:** Contact local ski resorts and ski shops; schedule visits; manage access, forms, and day-of logistics; maintain a site contact log.

    **Field measurements (winter season focus):** Travel to sites; set up/operate direct-reading instruments for PM2.5/PM10, TVOCs, and UFPs; follow SOPs; document ventilation/ PPE and task details; ensure data quality and safe handling of equipment.

    **Data & writing:** Clean and organize datasets; produce basic statistics/figures; draft Methods/Results sections, figure captions, and site summaries; contribute to abstracts and manuscripts.

    \*Lead Area Responsibilities (divided between two RA positions):

    **RA-Field Lead:** Field scheduling, instrument deployment, on-site notes, chain-of-custody, and equipment checklists.

     

    Research Assistant, I

     

    administrative tasks in support of the clinical research program or laboratory. Tasks will vary by department and research category. Typically, manages the front desk, organizes files, and performs other clerical duties associated with research studies and programs. Recruits participants, verifies eligibility, and enrolls subjects. Schedules participant visits and maintains records. Transports samples or laboratory equipment.     Minimum Qualifications

    **EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT :** 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

    Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:

    **Research Assistant, I:** Requires little to no related experience.

    **Research Assistant, II :** Requires at least 1 year of related experience.

    **Research Assistant, III :** Requires 3+ years of related experience.

     

    Preferences

     

    Graduate standing in IH/Env, comfort with outreach and fieldwork, valid driver’s license, ability to lift ~30 lb and work occasional evenings/weekends during winter sampling.

     

    Experience with PID / CPC /DustTrak/optical PM/ LCS sensors; winter driving; human-subjects/ IRB training; R/Python/Excel skills.
