    The School of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University (CM–A) invites applications for the 2026 Joseph F. Thomas Visiting Professorship (https://www.architecture.cmu.edu/school/people/visiting-faculty/joseph-f-thomas-visiting-professorship) .

     

    This two-year professorship supports early to mid-career practitioners, scholars and studio educators with focused research and/or creative work interested in teaching.

    Responsibilities

    The professorship recipient will have an annual teaching load of two design studios and a seminar. In addition, support will be provided for research/creative activity through student research assistants and/or discretionary funds.

    CM-A is focused on a critical examination of architectural education in the 21st century. Our pedagogies are a framework through which we are experimenting and developing new design directives to better prepare our students to address the three imminent challenges (https://www.architecture.cmu.edu/school/mission) facing society. Focused on design fundamentals, design research and design ethics, these pedagogies are implemented across all our programs.     Qualifications

    This position requires at a minimum a first professional degree in architecture (Bachelor of Architecture or Master of Architecture).
