We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Legal Assistant to join our Workers’ Compensation group on the Chicago Staff Legal team. Attention to detail and ability to multitask will be essential in this role. The ideal candidate will be expected to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality in all aspects of their work, while enjoying a high-volume, paperless, remote environment that is both dynamic and rewarding!
Work Arrangements:
+ This is a fully remote position that may require travel to downtown Chicago office for yearly in-office meetings.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
+ Prepare correspondence, briefs, motions, pleadings, and other documents using appropriate software.
+ Create and edit court documents in compliance with IWCC requirements.
+ Manage assigned attorneys’ calendars and docket based on court notifications, depositions, and meetings.
+ Schedule depositions and meetings with relevant parties.
+ Review incoming mail and document production.
+ Maintain electronic legal files and document management systems.
+ Offers professional diplomacy during each interaction with clients, opposing counsel, internal staff, claim partners, and court personnel.
+ Provide support of the broader legal team, as needed, including back-up support, case matching, PDF compilation, file conversion, printing, mailing, media creation, external file transfer, etc.
Demonstrated competency in the following:
+ Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Legal Assistant in a law office or corporate law department •
+ Illinois Workers’ Compensation experience is required.
+ Insurance defense background is preferred.
+ Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks for multiple attorneys.
+ Demonstrated knowledge of Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission practices and Comp File.
+ Proficiency with case management software.
+ Ability to format and edit electronic documents (PDF, TIF).
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
+ Familiarity with Microsoft tools such as OneDrive, SharePoint, and Copilot.
+ Adaptability to evolving technology and resources.
+ Motivated and proactive problem solver.
+ Ability to meet productivity targets in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills.
+ Successful candidates will have experience in a high-volume litigation environment with experience in docketing, document drafting, and data maintenance.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$57,200 - $85,800
