The College of Western Idaho (CWI) is seeking a Department Chair for the School of Health to lead faculty, guide academic excellence, and support student success. This full-time, 11-month faculty position combines leadership and teaching responsibilities, overseeing departmental operations, faculty supervision, scheduling, budgeting, and program development.     Responsibilities:

    Provide Academic and Instructional Leadership

     

    + Oversee departmental operations to ensure high-quality instruction and alignment with college standards.

    + Assign faculty to courses, coordinate the annual class schedule, and consult on curriculum or program changes.

    + Maintain departmental records, ensure compliance with academic policies, and manage dual credit, assessment, and facility needs.

     

    Support and Develop Faculty Excellence

     

    + Conduct teaching observations and performance evaluations for full-time and adjunct faculty.

    + Facilitate professional growth through feedback, collaboration, and consistent communication.

    + Lead recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes for departmental faculty and staff.

     

    Foster Student Success and Engagement

     

    + Address and resolve student inquiries and instructional concerns promptly and professionally.

    + Review and approve exceptions to academic requirements and ensure access to appropriate courses and resources.

    + Promote an equitable, student-centered learning environment.

     

    Manage Departmental Operations and Resources

     

    + Prepare and oversee the department’s operating budget, including course fees and resource allocations.

    + Facilitate timely performance management and ensure accountability within the department.

    + Collaborate actively on the School Leadership Team to advance institutional goals and strategic priorities.

    What We're Looking For:

    • Master’s degree in related discipline

    • Five years of demonstrated teaching excellence in a variety of courses at the post-secondary level

    • Two years of leadership or supervisory experience

    • Demonstrated leadership behaviors that result in making good decisions aligned with the College’s priorities

    • Experience in curriculum design, implementation, and oversight

    • Experience developing and monitoring budgetspreferred

    • Management of a learning labpreferred

    • Experience in problem-based learning, teaching with an array of distance learning technologies, teaching in blended learning formats and online teachingpreferred

    **Most positions at CWI are in-person and based on campus. While some roles may allow up to two remote workdays per week, eligibility for remote work is determined on a case-by-case basis at the hiring manager's discretion. All candidates must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, a reasonable commuting distance from CWI. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
