THE POSITION
The State of Connecticut (https://portal.ct.gov/) , Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services ( DMHAS (https://portal.ct.gov/DMHAS/About-DMHAS/Agency/About-DMHAS) ) is seeking a qualified and experienced individual for the position of Nurse Clinical Instructor (https://www.jobapscloud.com/CT/specs/classspecdisplay.asp?ClassNumber=5914FP&LinkSpec=RecruitNum2&R1=&R3=) . In this role, you will be directly responsible for developing curricula and delivering instruction in core nursing principles to elevate staff competency at Whiting Forensic Hospital, a maximum security forensic psychiatric hospital. ABOUT US
DMHAS is a health care agency whose mission is to promote the overall health and wellness of persons with behavioral health needs through an integrated network of holistic, comprehensive, effective, and efficient services and supports that foster dignity, respect, and self-sufficiency in those we serve.
Whiting Forensic Hospital specializes in providing inpatient services to individuals involved in the criminal justice system. The hospital consists of 91 maximum security beds and 138 enhanced security beds. Services are provided to individuals who are admitted under the following categories: Psychiatric Security Review Board commitment, Criminal court order for restoration of competency to stand trial, Civil commitment (voluntary or involuntary) and Transfer from the Department of Correction (during period of incarceration or at end of sentence). Discharge options are dependent on legal status and the purpose of admission.

To send verification of your license(s) to CT, read and agree to the terms, enter your biographic information, select your license type and select ‘SEARCH’. Review the results and select the ‘Next’ button. Check the box next to ‘Connecticut’ and complete the transaction. Once the transaction is completed, you will receive a confirmation email from Nursys and the verification will be available to the DPH. Note that PA and MI verifications are not provided through Nursys. Please contact those state boards for information on obtaining verification.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state health care facility or institution this class is accountable for developing curricula and teaching the principles and practices of nursing and health related subjects to nursing personnel and interdisciplinary staff.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
+ In collaboration with interdisciplinary staff members, participates in assessment of educational needs and requirements of staff and individuals by determining areas of deficiencies and considering government regulations.
+ Understands and applies the process of adult learning theory to educational programs.
+ Participates in development and revising of curricula.
+ Conducts research to obtain the most recent information about identified topic with the use of evidence-based practice
+ Delivers curricula to targeted groups including instruction in theory and provision of clinical experience.
+ Evaluates effectiveness of curricula through analyses of class participation, feedback, and written tests.
+ Participates in workshops designed for career advancement of nursing staff.
+ Instructs staff of all levels in orientation and other programs.
+ Supervises learning experiences of staff in programs and on patient-care units.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Three (3) years of experience in hospital or institutional nursing as a Registered Nurse.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
+ A Bachelor's degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience.
+ A Master's degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Experience in a teaching/training role
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
+ Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a license as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut OR hold a Multistate or Compact Registered Nurse license.
+ Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
