General Statement of Job
The Code Compliance Specialist P/T performs clerical and technical work related to the enforcement of zoning regulations, housing and property maintenance codes, building codes, business license requirements and related city, county, state and federal codes within the City. Under the supervision of the Code Compliance Manager, this position demonstrates strong time management and self-direction as they perform clerical support duties for the Code Compliance Division.
A Code Compliance Specialist P/T must meet all the education and experience requirements, hold required certifications, and have required work experience, as noted below.
Essential Functions
+ Understands and utilizes applicable code enforcement administrative procedures as required by Florida Statutes, Chapter 162 and in the City Code of Ordinances.
+ Provides general clerical support, including opening and distributing mail, operating standard office equipment, and utilizing assigned business process software programs such as word processing and database applications.
+ Communicates with and responds to inquiries from members of the public and staff regarding department processes, code compliance matters and the special magistrate process in a timely manner.
+ Generates code compliance related correspondence, including notice of violation letters, complaint reports, and notices to appear, independently or from supervisor’s notes.
+ Receives and assignees complaint inquiries to appropriate staff member such as inspectors, supervisors or chiefs.
+ Coordinates with County Circuit Court on processing of citations.
+ Assists the public at the One-stop Center area with complaints and/or inquires for Code Compliance and Business Tax matters.
+ Processes special event permits.
+ Reviews and manages files and records for accuracy and compliance with F.S. Chapter 162 requirements.
+ Responds to requests for public information using required software.
+ Collects fees, prepares invoices, and verifies account balances utilizing appropriate software.
+ Prepares routine reports and documents and conducts detailed and accurate research.
Related tasks:
+ Maintains appointment calendar.
+ Research and collects documentation for code cases, Code Officers, Code Enforcement and Business Tax Department.
+ Maintain various records and files, including confidential files, photographs and evidence of violations
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
+ City, County and State regulations relative to directly complaints to the appropriate staff and following up to confirm resolution of the complaint.
+ Methods and procedures used in code enforcement, including City, County and State regulations (Chapter 162, Florida Statutes).
+ Geography of the City.
+ Standard office practices, procedures, clerical techniques, software, and equipment.
+ Business English, spelling and arithmetic.

+ Technical reading comprehension, understanding written sentences, schematics, and paragraphs in work-related documents.
+ Active listening, giving full attention to what others are saying, understanding the points made, asking questions as needed, and avoiding interruptions at inappropriate times.
+ Service orientation, providing support and assistance as needed, ensuring inquiries, concerns, and administrative needs are addressed efficiently and effectively.
+ Time management, efficiently organizing tasks, prioritizing responsibilities, and allocating time for duties.
+ Communication, clearly articulating information to non-technical individuals and groups to ensure mutual understanding, resolve differences, refer customers to appropriate resources, and build trust and maintain relationships.
+ Active learning, continually learning and practicing staying up to date with current codes, standards, requirements, and evolving technologies
Ability to:
+ Type accurately at a rate of 30 WPM
+ Make mathematical calculations and file alphabetically.
+ Communicate effectively in oral and written formats with property owners, contractors, other city employees and members of the general public.
+ Effectively analyze code compliance matters and respond to code related inquiries in an accurate and timely manner.
+ Read maps, including zone area maps.
+ Multitask and adapt as needed to shifting priorities while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail.
+ Organize and analyze information accurately.
+ Effectively research, organize and analyze numeric, text and graphic data and information on a variety of code enforcement related topics, then clearly communicate the results of that research and analysis in oral, and written form.
+ Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public; understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
+ High School diploma or GED equivalency
+ Two (2) years of experience in a customer service, clerical, or office administration position
PREFFERED QUALIFICAITONS
+ Certification in Administrative Aspects of Code Enforcement from the Florida Association of Code Enforcement (F.A.C.E)

CITY OF BOCA RATON - BENEFITS SUMMARY
Part-Time Employees
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: To be eligible to receive Paid Leave and to contribute to the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, a part-time employee must have worked at least 1,040 hours in the prior fiscal year
PAID LEAVE: Employees who work a minimum of 1,040 hours per fiscal year will receive twelve (12) hours of Paid Leave on October 1st. This Paid Leave shall be used no later than September 30th of that fiscal year or it will be forfeited. These hours may not accumulate and may only be granted with the approval of the employee's supervisor. This paid leave has no cash value at separation of employment.
MISSION SQUARE 457 DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLAN: Employees who work a minimum of 1,040 hours per fiscal year will be allowed to participate in the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan. The City will not provide any matching funds.
