    Medtronic’s Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) Research & Development (R&D) organization is looking for a motivated engineer with experience in systems engineering principles and practices to work in a systems engineering role for product development.

     

    This role will focus on system concept and architecture, requirements and design, integration, verification, and validation for products within the CRM ecosystem. You will be responsible for partnering with systems engineer peers, marketing, product design teams, quality and program management to drive meaningful design inputs, a robust design, and ultimately an efficient and effective verification and validation strategy.

     

    Along the path to launch, you will become a technical contributor towards the success of the product and help establish best-practices and innovative approaches towards proving that our products meet the expectations of the Medtronic Mission. The position offers an excellent opportunity for an engineer interested in designing and executing systems engineering activities to produce reliable and successful products. Candidates should have demonstrated ability to execute independently after receiving high level scope and constraints.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Project Leadership:

    + Provide overall technical leadership for the solution.

    + Lead the transformation of desired outcomes (customer/business needs) into quality solutions for customers.

    + Drive and monitor the technical content, integrity, and integration of the system.

    + Drive collaboration with cross-functional partners to achieve technical alignment .

    + Identify top project technical risks and drive activities to mitigate risk.

    + Evolve the solution to address learnings from the risk burndown and system integration activities.

    + Mature solution concepts with cross-functional partners to address trade-offs and allocation to subsystems .

    + Communicate solution concepts to the core team, business, and cross-functional teams .

    + Drive organizational alignment of system solutions through influence .

    + Lead the identification of the Systems Engineering activities, durations, dependencies, and work breakdown structure and delegate appropriate tasks to systems engineers on the project team .

    + Develop the system engineers on the project team through coaching/mentoring .

    + Lead the Systems Team supporting the project, responsible for providing technical review and decisions related to the technical content and escalating challenges with recommendations.

    + Accountable for technical correctness of final delivered solution .

    Development Activities:

    + Lead user engagement sessions to collect user inputs

    + Define user workflows and drive procedure development solutions

    + Drive implementation of the technical aspects of selected solution using Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices: define design inputs, define system design, allocate functionality/performance to subsystems, and review subsystem designs .

    + Define and execute plans to drive maturity of technology and algorithmic features, to reduce risk as necessary

    + Develop and Execute System Risk Burn Down Activities to retire risk and demonstrate system capability .

    + Lead teams to develop and execute a robust and efficient system verification and validation strategy.

    + Establish evaluation & launch strategy (e.g. alpha/beta testing, Key Performance Indicators)

    Systems Engineering Functional Excellence:

    + Define and execute best practices of Systems Engineering processes, advocate for high quality engineering

    + Mentor systems engineers on Systems Engineering principles and practices including MBSE, requirement flow down, interface definition, trade-offs and transfer functions, and continuous integration and development.

    + Collaborate with cross-functional partners to identify opportunities for Digital Engineering solutions that drive quality and speed

    + Drive cross-program alignment in development and use of MBSE capabilities

    + Drive strategic initiatives aimed at making our systems engineering processes and tools more efficient

     

    Travel Requirements: Travel approximately once per year.

    Required Qualifications

    + Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience

    + OR Master’s degree with a minimum of 8years of relevant experience

    + OR PhD with 6 years relevant experience

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Demonstrated experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Systems Modeling Language (SysML)

    + Demonstrated expertise in modeling across multiple domains (e.g., physical, logical, functional/behavioral, data)

    + Experience with systems engineering principles

    + Demonstrated experience with modern software development practices and tools including continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) and distributed version control (e.g., Azure Pipelines/Jenkins, Git)

    + Experience communicating information at various levels

    + Demonstrated domain knowledge and understands applications to assigned projects

    + Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement by studying and applying technical advances in area of expertise

    + Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others

    + Strong organization, prioritization, and communication skills

    + Experience leading a team and communicating information at various levels

    + Experience working in the Medical Device or other regulated industry

    + Experience with Digital Engineering

    + Experience in defining modeling patterns and/or UML Profiles

    + Experience with Sparx Enterprise Architect

    + Experience with integrating MBSE models with simulation tools (MathWorks, Ansys, Esteco)

    + Experience with integrating MBSE models with system-level test automation

    + Familiarity with Design for Six Sigma or related product development processes

    + A person that is versatile, technically savvy, curious, a broad systems thinker, and willing to work in a space with a lot of ambiguity.

    + Good judgment in assessing risks and opportunities of these solutions.

    + Customer focused and service oriented

    Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$156,000.00 - $234,000.00

     

    This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

     

    The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

     

    The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
