NYU Tisch is searching to fill the position of Chair of the Department of Undergraduate Film and Television beginning in September 2026. We seek a dynamic, creative and collaborative leader to guide our premier department. They will be responsible for providing strategic vision and leadership, overseeing departmental operations and advocating for the department’s priorities to the school and university administration. The position will be on a full-time, Associate or full Professor tenure line. (Please note: Tisch School of the Arts Department Chairs are fixed appointments, renewable at the discretion of the Dean.)
This pre-eminent BFA program trains a student body of approximately 1300 in a rigorous, hands-on approach to film, television and digital media. The department curriculum includes coursework in the following areas of specialization: production, post-production, scriptwriting, producing, directing, sound recording and design, cinematography, animation, and film history & criticism. The regular teaching load for Undergraduate Film and Television full-time faculty is five courses per year. The Chair will administer the department; oversee on-going curriculum development; schedule faculty; teach one course per semester; advise students; and participate in departmental and school-wide committees.
Salary, to be negotiated, includes an excellent benefits package. In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for an Associate Professor position is $110,000 - $170,000 and the annual base salary range for a full Professor position is $125,000 - $195,000. This pay range represents base pay only (for 9 months) and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items. The position will provide additional compensation for serving as Chair of the Department. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
The ideal candidate will have a proven professional production background, a strong commitment and desire to work with students and familiarity with the film television and/or digital media industry. On-going professional work is expected and encouraged. Evidence of teaching experience or ability at the university level is preferred, as well as demonstrated leadership ability in a creative and collaborative environment. We are actively seeking applicants who have a commitment to equity-forward leadership practices and experience leading and encouraging the ongoing development of a community where everyone is respected and will be able to contribute their unique skills and perspectives.
