Position Summary
The Personal Safety Specialist is responsible for implementing and maintaining site-wide safety programs to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and company policies. This role supports all functions at the site, including R&D, FS&RE, and external contractors, serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) across multiple safety disciplines. The position requires strong technical knowledge, hands-on training capabilities, and leadership in fostering a culture of safety.
Responsibilities:
+ Lead the Personal Safety Programs at our Indianapolis, IN facility, including Confined Space, Isolation of Energy, Powered Industrial Trucks, Machine Safety and Agricultural Equipment.
+ Administer safety programs, conduct employee training and complete risk management assessments in the areas of safety, occupational health, and environmental management.
+ Support location in record-keeping of Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) programs.
+ Develop and implement function and group specific safety policies/programs.
+ Lead site safety committees and consult with EH&S networks and employees to identify unsafe working conditions and develop appropriate controls or alternatives.
+ Conduct self-assessments, 1st party audits and leadership walk-throughs to continue to identify and improve our environments across campus.
+ Lead Root Cause Investigations, identify corrective actions and ensure effectiveness of the actions taken to prevent recurrence.
+ Continue to drive the safety culture at Corteva through demonstration and frequent/consistent communication on the importance of safety.
+ Interpret and communicate expectations based on laws, regulations, and company policies and procedures.
+ Able to lead or participate on Emergency Response Teams, specifically HAZWOPER and Confined Space.
+ Willingness to adapt to ever-changing environments, on both the Research and Development (R&D) and Facility Services and Real Estate (FS&RE) sides. Responsibilities of this role can shift to best support the organization at the site.
Requirements:
+ You have a Bachelor’s degree or higher is preferred.
+ 3+ years of relevant EH&S experience.
+ 2+ years of experience implementing Personal Safety programs and standards.
+ 3+ years supporting Research and Development and/or Facility environments (equivalent relevant experience and education will be considered).
+ Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
+ With your coaching & leadership skills, you are able to build trust and rapport with employees to achieve a strong safety culture.
+ High-level computer abilities.
+ High attention to detail so you can maintain awareness of existing and proposed safety codes/regulations and company guidelines plus maintain as well as analyze appropriate data.
+ Proactive problem-solver, able to make decisions in time sensitive conditions.
+ Proven ability to deliver hands-on, classroom training.
Preferences:
+ Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP: Thorough knowledge of personal safety, hazards and regulations.
+ OSHA 10-hr or 30-hr training certification.
+ Trained on Workplace Safety: Knowledge of First Aid, CPR, and AED skills and certification; thorough knowledge of safety regulations.
+ Aware of Environmental Regulations: Awareness of applicable environmental policies, standards, guidelines, regulations, and local requirements. (spill containment, facility waste stream & disposal requirements, etc.).
