Overview
Assists in managing the day to day operations of the unit utilizing quality, cost effective patient care principles. Supervises, supports and develops unit staff. Consistently utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area).

Responsibilities
+ Manages daily operations of patient care. Contributes to the maintenance of high quality, cost effective services consistent with the needs of the users and the hospi tal’s budgetary guidelines .
+ Provides clinical leadership by directing, coordinating and delegating patient care in an organized manne r, allowing for flexibility.
+ Collaborates with physicians and other health care team members to achiev e optimal patient outcomes .
+ Remains competent and available to p articipate in patient care pertinent to clinical specialty .
+ Demonstrates personal and professional growth and p romotes the same among team members .
+ Maintains awareness of applicable laws and/or regulations affecting patient care . Remains current on law/regulation changes, recognizes implications to the organization and recommends courses of a ction to ensure compliance.
+ Assists in the development of policy/procedure and guidelines for safe, efficient op eration of the department as needed.
+ Assists in developing annual budget and takes appropriate action when appropriate to maintain cont rol of department financial resources .
+ Implements evidence based practice strategies to meet the patient care needs. Assists in the achievement of quality improvement objectives and takes necessary modificatio ns for attainment of goals.
+ Interviews, orients, trains, schedules, evaluate s, disciplines , and terminates staff with appropriate input . Demonstrates the ability to fairly and consistently interpret, apply and follow per sonnel policies/procedures .
+ Is able to instruct and lead the staff so that a high level of productivity is maintained, intervening when necessary to problem solve.
Qualifications
Education:
+ Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
+ One year experience as a registered nurse
License(s)/Certifications:
+ Current Iowa License as a registered nurse
+ Current BCLS certification
