This Electronics Engineer 3 position is a contract role within the Operations Technology, Control Center Communications Operations organization of the Information Services business line. The role involves providing engineering expertise for the integration, operation, and maintenance of mission-critical Control Center Systems, as well as the monitoring and management systems required for ongoing support.
Responsibilities
+ Support Transmission Technology and Operations Technology by integrating and monitoring telecommunication devices using systems like JTO Solarwinds, Telenium, Nokia NSP, and Ciena Blue Planet.
+ Collaborate with Power Systems Control Lead Engineers and project managers to identify and execute network administrative tasks for assigned projects.
+ Engage in and support the integration of new equipment and procedures into the Control Center environment and assist with Operations & Maintenance standards development.
+ Collaborate with Planning, Design, Construction, and field maintenance organizations to scope engineering tasks for telecommunication projects.
+ Assist in configuring and integrating local and wide area data networks with mission-critical reliability requirements.
+ Draft and maintain network, NERC/CIP, and FISMA documentation.
+ Create database script automation and visualizations using Power BI and manage network concepts.
+ Perform Cisco networking in large high availability LAN/WAN environments, including Packet Transport Systems and Automatic Fiber Management Systems.
+ Interpret project requirements and recommend overall system configurations.
+ Partition system configuration tasks and provide assignment recommendations.
+ Review team work for completeness and accuracy before integration.
+ Coordinate and assist with configuration and integration efforts for BPA’s Field Sites and Control Center locations.
+ Develop, validate, and execute test and Operations & Maintenance procedures for compliance.
+ Provide clear technical documentation and comprehensive training for assigned systems.
+ Report project status updates and validate in-scope requirements are met through measurable goals and metrics.
+ Represent JTO in technical work groups and serve as the operations subject matter expert.
+ Create and recommend policies, procedures, and standards for new technology.
+ Troubleshoot system issues and notify maintenance personnel of operational problems.
+ Perform daily server health checks, troubleshoot device failures, and ensure database integrity.
+ Work safely and demonstrate safety practices.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering from an ABET-accredited school.
+ 10 years of experience with computer network and systems concepts applicable to regional transmission systems.
+ 5 years of experience in project teams developing computer or network systems.
+ Experience with Telecom/Network systems engineering principles.
+ Experience reviewing and evaluating design packages for conformance to specifications.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ 5 years of Carrier Ethernet/MPLS and/or network systems programming experience.
+ Experience with LAN/WAN network environments and telecommunications management systems.
+ Familiarity with digital systems that monitor and control devices from central stations.
+ Knowledge of project management, telecom, and routed networks.
+ Technical project coordination, including security controls testing.
Work Environment
The Control Center Communication Operations is responsible for the operation and maintenance of BPA's telecommunication infrastructure at Control Centers. The environment is slower-paced with somewhat flexible hours and a business casual dress code. The role requires independent work, often involving waiting for approvals and is deadline-driven.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Vancouver, WA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $65.00/hr.
