Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist II to join our team at the Providence Gateway location. This role involves performing blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, and recording maintenance data. You will be an essential part of our laboratory team, ensuring accurate specimen collection and processing while providing excellent customer service to our patients.
Responsibilities
+ Greet patients as they enter the lab and explain procedures for venipuncture and other specimen collections.
+ Perform blood draws using straight and butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes, ensuring accuracy.
+ Check test requisitions against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
+ Package and store specimens according to established procedures and required temperatures.
+ Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.
+ Answer telephone inquiries and provide laboratory results as needed.
+ Handle insurance, billing, and processing of samples efficiently.
+ Maintain a clean and decontaminated work environment.
Essential Skills
+ 6+ months of phlebotomy experience with proficiency in using straight and butterfly needles.
+ Ability to handle difficult draws, including those with scar tissue, rolling veins, and pediatric and geriatric patients.
+ Excellent customer service skills and a patient-first mindset.
+ Ability to navigate EMR systems and troubleshoot technology issues.
+ Strong data entry skills and attention to detail in labeling and processing specimens.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ High School Diploma or GED.
+ National Phlebotomy Certification (NHA, ASCP) preferred.
+ Experience with 20–50+ draws per shift in high-pressure environments.
+ Adaptability and teamwork skills in diverse teams.
+ Positive attitude, initiative, and effective collaboration.
+ Flexibility to work at different sites and handle staffing shortages.
+ Proven reliability and strong attendance record.
Work Environment
The position is based at Labcorp @ Providence Gateway/The Oregon Clinic located at 1111 NE 99th Ave, Portland, OR. The schedule is Monday to Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with a rotating Saturday requirement (one per month), typically at a different location. The role is initially a 3-month contract with potential extensions and opportunities for direct hire, dependent on performance and business needs. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.11/hr.
