Job Title: Sr. Grant Specialist
Job Description
The Grant Specialist is responsible for developing and managing complex grant and clinical trial budgets. This role involves collaborating with Principal Investigators, researchers, departmental staff, and other ancillary staff to ensure the successful preparation and submission of grant proposals. The Specialist will coordinate with administrative and program staff to ensure that grant objectives and costs are accurately reflected in project budgets. Additionally, the role includes negotiating terms and conditions for various clinical trials, reviewing protocols, and ensuring compliance with regulations and standards.
Responsibilities
+ Develop complex grant and clinical trial budgets for new funding opportunities and grant renewals.
+ Coordinate with administrative and program staff to ensure proper reflection of objectives and costs in project budgets.
+ Negotiate terms and conditions for Sponsors, Cooperative groups, and institutional clinical trials as necessary.
+ Review and analyze clinical trial protocols to determine appropriate cost allocation and resources.
+ Read and interpret funding opportunity announcements, assisting PIs and staff with proposal budget preparation.
+ Create and monitor complex grant budgets, coordinating completion with the Office of Sponsored Programs and relevant staff.
+ Ensure awarded grants are implemented according to requirements, including Time and Effort reporting.
+ Maintain awareness of federal, state, municipal, and agency grant requirements.
+ Assist with grant compliance and objectives in collaboration with Grants, Finance, and Department staff.
+ Communicate with PIs and departments regarding grant budgets in progress.
+ Coordinate grant budget revisions for renewals or re-budgeting of funding proposals.
+ Work with experts and core services to develop detailed grant budgets based on study needs.
+ Create, review, revise, and negotiate research-related budgets in accordance with regulations and policies.
+ Provide interpretation assistance of research funding opportunities and ensure compliance with sponsor and institution policies.
+ Apply knowledge of federal regulations on research compliance to ensure accuracy of grant budgets.
+ Assist with special projects in research administration processes as assigned.
Essential Skills
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
+ Understanding of clinical trial protocols and grant budgets.
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
+ Attention to detail, organized, strong analytical skills, and self-starter.
+ Ability to meet fixed deadlines and manage a high volume of complex workload requirements.
+ Ethical and diplomatic with excellent customer service skills.
+ Proficient interpersonal skills to manage communication between Grants, Program, and Finance departments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Associate degree in business administration, finance, or a research-related field.
+ Two years of experience in grant or clinical research, budget development, billing compliance, research contract management, or research administration.
