Position Summary: The Infection Preventionist is responsible for activities related to infection prevention, surveillance and control throughout the Rush Copley Medical Center. The Infection Preventionist coordinates investigations of patient, staff, or visitor infections and/or suspected exposures and reports to appropriate internal personnel or departments and external agencies. Collaborates with the Director, Quality & Regulatory Affairs, and the Rush System Infection Prevention team to reduce the risk of healthcare associated infection and ensure the safety and health of all personnel. Serves as a surveillance officer, resource and educational consultant on infections and communicable disease prevention and control. Oversees databases for infections and communicable diseases. Validates data abstracted in accordance with specification manuals for infectious disease reported measure sets and submits to approved vendors. Reports to local health department, Illinois department of Public Health and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, as necessary. Remains abreast of accreditation and governmental requirement related to infection prevention and facilitates performance improvement initiatives, as needed, as a lead influencer of Infection Prevention best practices.
Position Requirements:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required with a strong background in clinical microbiology, or related clinical healthcare field, preferably, a minimum of 5 years experience in infection control practices.
+ Preferred to be Board Certified in “Infection Prevention and Control” as awarded by the Certifying Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, or achievement within 1 year of hire.
+ Previous infection control program management, leadership or influential experience preferred.
+ Working knowledge of statistical data collection and interpretation required.
+ Strong communication skills and ability to prioritize is necessary.
