    Bus Technician / Mechanic I - Garage Nights Alignments

     

    Starting Pay:$ 32.21Top Rate Within 3 Years:$40.27/hour

     

    AVAILABLE SHIFT: Sunday-Thursday, 11:00pm-7:30am (Friday and Saturday off)Union Representation:ATU Local 282

    What You'll Do

     

    + Maintain, repair, and overhaul RTS buses and fleet vehicles.

    + Perform inspections, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance.

    + Identify and repair mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues.

    + Replace and adjust parts; complete necessary testing, including test drives.

    + Use diagnostic software and tools (e.g., AssetWorks, Cummins InSite, Allison).

    + Complete welding, brazing, cutting torch work, and assist with towing/road calls.

    + Conduct safety inspections and ensure proper documentation.

    + Perform alignments and support repairs on articulated and standard buses.

    + Work safely, efficiently, and meet competency standards.

    + Other duties as assigned.

     

    What We're Looking For

     

    + Two (2) years in an accredited diesel mechanic program or equivalent training in areas such as auto repair, hydraulics, diesel engines, EV systems, electrical repair, or weldingOR

    + Equivalent work experience (two years of experience may substitute for one year of education)

    Other Requirements

    + Must have own tools

    + Must obtain a NYS CDL Class B permit with passenger & air brake endorsements before start, and full Class B license within 90 days

    + Must obtain a CDL Class A permit and towing endorsement (may be after hire) and full Class A license within 90 days of permit

    + English proficiency required for safety-sensitive communication, manuals, and job instructions

    Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority (RGRTA) has a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy for all employees in accordance with state and federal law.
