Position Summary
Are you ready to be the face of Parks and Recreation? We're looking for a Recreation Specialist ( Facilities Specialist) to help maintain a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment for our team and visitors. Supervision and Received and Exercised
General supervision is provided by the Director of Parks and Recreation or designee.
Key Responsibilities
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Duties may include but are not limited to, the following:
+ Plan, organize, staff, direct and control the activities of a multi-purpose Community Center, recreation buildings, facilities and parks.
+ Represent the City and provide liaison with citizen groups, businesses, and public agencies interested in the use of community services buildings, facilities and parks.
+ Process Use of Facilities contracts.
+ Supervises scheduling of facilities.
+ Assist in developing and implementing marketing strategies for community buildings and parks.
+ Prepare a variety of promotional materials and department guide to effectively market programs.
+ Process program registrations and input into recreation scheduling software.
+ Recommend acquisition of supplies and equipment necessary to support functions of Department facilities and City parks.
+ Prepare revenue and activity reports, credit card reports and bank deposits. Assist with administrative functions of the Department including, but not limited to registration duties, accounts payable and receivable, and provide exceptional customer service.
+ Assist in the development and administration of the department budget, forecast funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; recommend adjustments as necessary.
+ Identify and make recommendations on safety hazards, maintenance and repairs on facilities and equipment.
+ Research and respond to inquiries and complaints regarding recreation programs facilities.
+ Participate in emergency shelter operations during a disaster.
+ Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education:
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, business, marketing, communications, public administration, or a related field.
Experience:
At least two years of experience in recreation, public relations, contract administration, marketing, public administration, or a related field.
License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.
Knowledge:
+ Principles and practices of public relations including internet marketing techniques.
+ Principles and practices of contract negotiation and administration.
+ Practices and procedures of the operation of multi-use facilities.
+ Principles of organization, administration, budget and personnel management.
+ Fundamentals of report preparation and presentation.
+ Community, social cultural and recreational needs.
+ Emergency procedures during hazardous conditions.
Skills and Abilities to:
+ Interact effectively with a variety of groups and individuals in the management of parks and recreation.
+ Promote the use of facilities and maximize revenues.
+ Assist with preparation of divisional budget.
+ Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
+ Assess and respond to community, social, cultural and recreational interests.
+ Operate sound systems, portable staging, and other equipment.
+ Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Environment: Standard office setting.
Physical: Incumbents require sufficient mobility to work in an office setting; stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; operate office equipment including use of a computer keyboard ability to setup/tear down tables, chairs, staging, and other program equipment; ability to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.
Hearing: hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Examination Process
