Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 3:15 PM
Pay Rate: $40/hr
Position Overview:
Amergis is seeking three qualified Educational Sign Language Interpreters to support deaf and hearing-impaired students in an elementary Deaf Education classroom in Killeen, TX. This role facilitates communication between students who use American Sign Language (ASL) and those who do not, including teachers, peers, and families.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Provide expressive and voice interpreting services in the prescribed communication mode.
+ Interpret oral communication into ASL and signed communication into spoken English.
+ Assist in classroom activities and orientation to deafness for staff and students.
+ Interpret school events such as assemblies, meetings, and graduation exercises.
+ Teach sign language classes and conduct individual instruction as directed.
+ Help evaluate student progress and communicate updates to staff.
+ Serve as a resource for substitute teachers.
+ Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and district policies.
+ Participate in IEP meetings and student care conferences as requested.
+ Ensure compliance with Section 504 and ADA regulations.
+ Stay current with best practices, trends, and legislation related to sign language interpretation.
Minimum Requirements:
+ State Board of Education Initial Sign Language Interpreter Certificate (as applicable)
+ Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) certificate (as applicable)
+ Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification (as applicable)
+ Completion of Amergis Competency Program (if applicable)
+ Current CPR certification (if applicable)
+ TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray (if applicable)
+ Current Health Certificate (per contract or state regulation)
+ Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
+ Successful completion of new hire training
+ Strong communication skills and proficiency in English
+ Computer proficiency
+ Must be at least 18 years of age
Caseload & Support:
+ Caseload: TBD
+ Classroom Support: Teacher and possibly a paraprofessional
+ Group or 1:1 Support: N/A
