    *General Description:*The Veteran Verification Specialist performs journey-level customer service, consultative support, and technical assistance work as a vital member of the Veteran Entrepreneur Program (VEP). Working under moderate supervision, this role requires initiative, discretion, and independent judgment.

     

    As the primary point of contact for veteran entrepreneurs across Texas, you will deliver high-quality support and guidance. Responsibilities include verifying veterans’ eligibility for Veteran Verification Letters in accordance with87(R) SB 938,and issuing TVC-verified Veteran-Owned Business Certificates and Logos. This includes reviewing documentation, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with VEP guidelines and procedures.

     

    You will respond to veteran inquiries through various channels—including phone, email, mail, in-person interactions, and online platforms ensuring timely and professional communication. The role also involves entering and maintaining data in the VEP database, processing correspondence, and performing general clerical duties. Evaluate customer service processes and procedures and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and service quality.

     

    This role involves conducting reviews of literature, statutes, rules, and policies, as well as preparing administrative reports, studies, and specialized research projects. Study and analyze operations and problems, prepare reports of findings and recommendations, and prepare justifications for the implementation of procedural or policy changes. You may also support outreach and engagement efforts to promote the VEP and its services.

     

    This position plays a key role in empowering veteran-owned businesses and ensuring they receive the support and recognition they deserve.

    *Essential**Duties and Responsibilities:*

    • Process Veteran Verification Letters (VVL)

    • Process TVC-verified Veteran-Owned Business Certificate and Logo (TVC-VOB)

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for all VVL and TVC-VOB inquiries

    • Review documents for accuracy and completeness

    • Study and research entrepreneurial trends in Texas

    • Provide comprehensive reports on findings

    • Review activity logs, files, and reports on services

    • Coordinate the entry of information into the database and ensure all letters and other correspondence to customers are accurately processed

    • Resolve highly complex customer service problems

    • Maintain Veteran Entrepreneur Database

    • Works with Veteran Business Consultants to ensure timely services

    • Works hours other than 7:30 am – 4:30 pm required for work-related functions

    • Ability to carefully listen and demonstrate patience with veteran entrepreneurs

    • Ability to work independently and on a team to meet various deadlines

    • Ability to accurately process all appropriate data into the database

    • Ability to perform advanced computer skills, including conducting internet research, operating Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other PC-based programs

    • Ability to provide superior customer service

    • Ability to perform case management

    • Ability to respond to public inquiries promptly, to interpret rules, regulations, and policies

    • Ability to communicate effectively

    • Ability to develop and conduct training on certifying the veteran's eligibility for the VVL and TVC-verified VOB Certificate and Logo

    *Environmental & Physical Conditions: *

    Normal office work environment, mostly sedentary in nature. May involve walking; standing; remaining stationary for long periods of time; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping, and bending; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Work involves extensive telephone usage and repetitive hand/wrist/finger motions while using the computer.
