Description
Job Overview
The Benefits Specialist is responsible for daily management of benefit plans insuring continuity of employee support, communication, and wellness. Provide vendor administration on transactional workflows, and departmental execution of duties and operational compliance. Participates in and prepares specific analysis and reporting utilizing these for exception management and continuous improvement. Develop, validate, and promote benefits strategies for St. Johns Community Services. Respond to customer inquiries and requests. Reporting Relationship:
This position reports to the Director of Human Resources
Work Hours:
This position is expected to work during core business hours 9 AM Eastern 5:00 PM Eastern with some levels of flexibility.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position is an individual contributor, has no direct reports and has no supervisory responsibilities.
Duties & Responsibilities
+ Lead planning for both existing as well as emerging health, welfare, and retirement benefit programs/strategies and assesses the effectiveness of these programs/strategies in meeting overall organization recruiting and retention goals using data analytics.
+ Partner with broker to qualify, quantify, and select effective carrier and vendor services with direct involvement in negotiating product and service agreements
+ Assist with internal audits, and external auditors, actuaries, and advisers with necessary/recurring reports and information
+ Oversee the management and maintenance of historical records associated with those changes
+ Provide strategic support to HRIS/payroll planning and change initiatives
+ Administer and execute all benefit audits
+ Participate in the development of programs and corresponding communication plans aimed at improving the overall level of wellness for St. Johns employees
+ Participate in the practical development of wellness initiatives and pilots that define present and future activity-based programs and steer plan design, costing, and qualification for participants of the St. Johns health plans
+ Understand St. Johns various employee benefits programs, including group health, flexible spending accounts, dental and vision, accident and disability, life insurance, 401(k), and wellness benefits.
+ Conduct benefits orientations for new hires and explain benefits self-enrollment system.
+ Prepare and set up meetings (including but not limited to open enrollment) designed to help employees obtain information and understand company benefits and other related incentive programs.
+ Ensure distribution of required employee notices.
+ Respond to employee benefit inquiries that may come by phone, email and Ask Here in Paycom.
+ Maintain employee benefits filing systems and ensure benefits changes are entered appropriately in payroll system for payroll deduction.
+ Assist employees with health, dental, life and other related benefit claims.
+ Verify the calculation of the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies and maintain statistical data relative to premiums, claims and costs. Resolve administrative problems with the carrier representatives.
+ Complete benefits reporting requirements.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
+ 2 years of education beyond high school in college or technical school
+ 5 years of extensive and practical knowledge of ERISA plan compliance, IRS and DOL requirements and regulation and a supplemental understanding of ACA/HHS mandates or initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
+ Bachelor's in Business Administration Human Resources or related field
+ Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) Certification
+ Ability to work cross-functionally, especially with HR Leadership, HR Generalists and Payroll and Information Systems.
+ Developed analytical and communication skills. Public speaking and negotiation skills
