    Position Summary

    The Ella Cline Shear School of Education invites applications for the Director of Field Experiences position. The Director is responsible for all field experiences, including student teaching, in undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation programs within the Ella Cline Shear School of Education. The individual in this position will report to the Dean of the School of Education. The Director of Field Experiences works closely with faculty, staff, students, and administration in the School of Education, across the college, as well as with our P-12 school partner administrators and teachers. The person in this position must be able to communicate complex information verbally and in writing to various stakeholder groups, exhibit discretion and professional judgement, and have strong organizational and technological skills. This position requires strong communication, collaboration, supervision, and leadership skills, as well as the ability to think systematically and strategically in reviewing and implementing field experiences to meet NYSED , SUNY , and accreditation requirements. The director promotes high-quality, authentic field experiences for all undergraduate and graduate students in our teacher education programs.

    Essential Roles and Responsibilities include:

    + Provide strategic leadership and full oversight of all P-12 partnerships in collaboration with all School of Education faculty, professional staff, affiliated faculty, and P-12 partners.

    + Assume responsibility for all aspects of student teaching, including all preparations for and arrangements, and monitoring of student teaching, in collaboration with program faculty and the Director of Academic Support and Certification

    + Oversee the arrangement of all placements (including international placements) for all students in certification programs, including ensuring all placements are responsive to NYSED , SUNY , accreditation, and certification requirements and detailed and comprehensive records on field experiences (both pre -student teaching and student teaching placements) maintained by the Office of Field Experiences, in collaboration with the Director of Assessment and Accreditation

    + Establish new and innovative partnerships with P-12 schools, centers, and districts in collaboration with program faculty members, while maintaining ongoing partnerships

    + Management and Representation of the Office of Field Experiences, including budget management, and supervision of all Office of Field Experiences staff, including an Administrative Assistant I, Assistant Director of Field Experiences, and all University-Based Teacher Educators (UBTEs/supervisors).

    + Engage in ongoing professional development

    + Participate and engage in service to the Ella Cline Shear School of Education and SUNY Geneseo

    Required Qualifications

    + Masters degree in Education or a closely related field

    + A minimum of three years of successful PreK-12 teaching experience

    + At least two years of supervisory experience

    + Evidence of supporting teacher candidates in field placements, and/or building and cultivating mutually beneficial partnerships with school districts or community organizations

    + Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment with various stakeholders

    + Candidates for this position must be eligible to work in the United States. VISA sponsorship will not be offered.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Previous experience in higher education, specifically in teacher preparation

    + Experience in the administration of P-12 programs and/or higher education

    + Demonstrated knowledge of NYSED (New York State Department of Education) regulations regarding clinical experiences

    + Demonstrated ability to facilitate engagement via multiple modalities including, in-person, hybrid, and remote, and proficiency with technological tools and applications.

     

    License/Certification

     

    Professional or permanent teacher certification ( NYS preferred)

    Assume responsibility for all aspects of student teaching, including all preparations for and arrangements, and monitoring of student teaching

     

    + Oversee the arrangement of student teaching placements (including international placements) for all students in certification programs, including ensuring all placements are responsive to NYSED , SUNY , accreditation, and certification requirements.

    + Inform and engage candidates in the student teaching application process, including systematic tracking and monitoring of and coordinated communications to all student teachers to ensure they are in compliance with SOE requirements prior to the start of the student teaching semester.

    + Design and implement effective orientation, resources, and supports for student teachers.

    + Design, update, and convene effective orientation opportunities, resources, and support for School-Based Teacher Educators (SBTEs/cooperating/mentor teachers).

    + Recruit, train, and supervise student teacher UBTEs (supervisors), including the design and implementation of a systematic approach to build supervisor capacity and access to resources.

    + Develop, manage, and coordinate systems and materials to support student success in student teaching, including the design and implementation of systems to communicate expectations and an intervention, support, and remediation process for student teachers who do not meet expectations.

    + Partner with the Department Chairs/programs and the Director of Academic Support and Certification to develop interventions and supports for students identified prior to the student teaching semester.

    Provide strategic leadership and full oversight of all P-12 partnerships

     

    + Create and maintain a digital database tracking system for all candidates’ early field, practicum, and student teaching, for all teacher preparation and certification programs, to ensure compliance with all school, college, SUNY , NYSED , and accreditation requirements, and ensuring high-quality integrative and applied learning experiences, in collaboration with the Director of Assessment and Accreditation and the Director of Academic Support and Certification.

    + Establish and maintain partnerships with schools/school districts, including proposing and developing innovative partnerships, in collaboration with program faculty members, and in consultation with the SOE Dean and faculty.

    + Cultivate, maintain, and strengthen field experiences in collaboration with faculty in education programs by routinely and collaboratively reviewing all aspects of field experiences, including curricular design, schedule, communication and collaboration with school partners, and NYSED / SUNY regulations.

    + Develop and maintain affiliation agreements with P-12 institutions

    + Convene the SOE Field Experience Advisory Committee, as needed.

    + Serve on local P-12 partnership committees

    Management and Representation of the Office of Field Experiences

     

    + Supervise and support all Office of Field Experiences staff, including an Administrative Assistant I, Assistant Director of Field Experiences, and all University-Based Teacher Educators (UBTEs/supervisors).

    + Regularly communicate field experience and student teaching information with all relevant stakeholders, including, but not limited to, the SOE Dean, Director of Assessment and Accreditation, Director of Academic Support and Certification, Department Chairs, program faculty, P-12 school administrators, UBTEs, SBTEs, and students.

    + Collaborate with all relevant stakeholders, including, but not limited to, the SOE Dean, Director of Assessment and Accreditation, Director of Academic Support and Certification, Department Chairs, program faculty, P-12 school administrators, UBTEs, and SBTEs.

    + Manage and monitor the budget for the Office of Field Experiences

    + Serve as a member of the SOE executive committee and the School of Education faculty/staff meetings. Attend and participate in other committee and program meetings as appropriate and required.

    + On-site visits to P-12 centers and schools to observe, support, and provide feedback for candidates, SBTEs, UBTEs, and faculty are expected

    + Regularly monitor and track placement viability by reviewing and integrating feedback from all stakeholders, including students, UBTEs, and SBTEs.

    + Represent SUNY Geneseo and the Ella Cline Shear School of Education through engagement and participation in local, state, including the NYS Clinical Practice Professionals Consortium Meetings and Activities ( NYS CPPC ), and at the national level.

    + Actively pursue and engage in relevant professional development activities (e.g., conferences, workshops, committees) to maintain currency in teacher education, field experiences, student teaching, and P-12 partnerships.
