    Job Summary

    Simulation Tech Specialist

     

    The Simulation Tech Specialist for the Eccles Health Sciences Education Building’s Clinical Skills lab will operate and manage the learning management system ( LMS ) used to facilitate simulation activities. We are seeking a motivated & organized individual with an interest in coordinating and managing technical details related to simulation-based educational activities for learners across the health sciences. The Clinical Skills Lab in the Eccles Health Sciences Education Building is designed to support clinical education for learners across the health sciences, often using simulated participants (patient actors). The lab consists of 23 outpatient examination rooms managed by an LMS that supports real-time digital audio and video recording. The Simulation Tech Specialist is the point person for setting up and running the cloud-based learning management system, ensuring functionality of the audio/video system during simulation activities, ordering and tracking operational supplies, troubleshooting technical issues, and serving as the super user for the LMS which includes providing technical assistance to students, faculty and other users. The Simulation Tech Specialist must be able to work independently and as well as function within a team in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.

    Responsibilities

    The Simulation Tech Specialist is the point person and super user for the cloud-based learning management system. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

     

    * Coordinating simulation program activities by setting up simulation rooms including equipment, IT programs, video, headphones, PCs, telephones, microphones and other required systems to ensure a successful and timely execution of educational learning experiences, events, and performance evaluations.

    * Managing and tracking supplies for all 23 exam rooms. The simulation tech specialist is responsible for ensuring rooms are fully stocked, equipped, sterilized and set up ready for use before client arrives; assigns and communicates the exam rooms being used daily according to the master schedule.

    * First line data entry in the LMS for simulation activities (i.e. new students, course exam material, door notes, standardized patient evaluations, faculty scoring rubrics, and write up templates).

    * Setting up and verification of exam flow(s) prior to each event; ensuring functionality and set up according to activity needs prior to the event.

    * Providing first line technical support for the LMS system, including AV system, and data capture software, including troubleshooting problems that may arise during events; acts as the liaison with the offsite technical support team, when necessary, about technical issues; documents and follows up after events with issues to ensure a fix has been implemented. Serves as super user for the cloud based LMS .

    * Providing timely announcements as the master control during activities

    * Setting up Clinical Skills Lab in preparation for simulation activities, including equipment, supplies, IT and video.

    * Providing care, periodic maintenance and repairs (as appropriate) of simulation center equipment and/or submitting work orders for maintenance; maintains cleanliness and order of specialized equipment and supplies.

    * Assisting faculty with technological equipment, headphones, exam rubrics, and other required systems to ensure a successful and timely observation of students.

    * Providing training on recording system and equipment as needed.

    * Attending meetings and contributing to committee work as appropriate and assigned by leadership.

    * Staying abreast of developments in the field of simulation technology.

    * Obtaining certification as a Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.

    * Participating in U of U Committees as requested.

    * Other general duties and functions as assigned.

     

    Simulation Tech Specialist, I

     

    This position supports interdisciplinary simulation technologies and methodologies of the Eccles Health Science Education Building’s Clinical Skills Lab in running low, midrange, and high-fidelity simulations through the use of task trainers and simulated participants. Operates cloud-based learning management system and provides technical support to students, faculty and other users. Independently manages simulation rooms application of medical equipment and supplies, IT, recording and playback. Supports Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) Multi Objective Structured Examinations (MOSPEs), Interprofessional Education ( IPE ), immersive simulation experiences and other scheduled simulation learning activities. Responsibilities may include application of moulage, programing mannequins in accordance with scenarios, task trainer set up and management, and assisting in preparing simulated participants for scenarios/clinical experience. Conducts work assignments as directed. Closely supervised with little latitude for independent judgment.

     

    Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience or a master’s (or equivalency) degree.

     

    This is an Entry-Level position in the General Professional track.
