    *NOTE: This vacancy is being announced at two different job classes Engineer Senior and/or Engineer 2 Graduate. The final class is dependent on the successful applicant’s qualifications.

     

    This position is located at Central Office in St. Paul and may have the flexibility to telework, work a hybrid schedule, or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.

     

    You will assist the Design Standards Engineer with directing significant department-wide projects related to traffic barriers, roadside safety, and design standards development for use on state improvement projects. You’ll be responsible for assisting in the creation, development, revision, monitoring, and interpretation, of design standards for the preparation of plans, for the construction of highways and other transportation modes. Other duties include: the review and publishing of MnDOT’s manuals (Facility Design Guide, Standard Plans, and Standard Plates) and Technical Memoranda; provide solutions to problems encountered by design, maintenance and construction personnel within Mn/DOT, counties, cities, and consulting engineering companies; research activities including literature searches on subjects related to highway design, assisting districts/division on monitoring performance of field experiments; assist in evaluating the crashworthiness of barriers and other traffic control devices.

     

    MnDOT does not sponsor applicants for visas or Optional Practical Exam for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Engineer Senior:

    Employee must hold a Licensure as a professional Civil engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity. (Comity (Reciprocity). (If obtaining licensure through Comity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)

     

    **AND** experience in:

    + Experience preparing and reviewing construction plans, specifications and estimates;

    + Experience interpreting national roadside safety design policies;

    + Experience drafting in MicroStation OpenRoads Designer and Adobe InDesign;

    + Ability to communicate technical data to all audiences regarding complex design standards, and other technical correspondences.

    OR

    Engineer 2 Graduate:

    All applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited College or University **and** two years professional level civil engineering experience in the areas noted below; (a Master's degree may be substituted for one year of the professional experience) plus applicants must have full completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. And must obtain licensure within 6 years of hire date.

     

    **AND** experience in:

    + Experience preparing and reviewing construction plans, specifications and estimates;

    + Experience interpreting national roadside safety design policies;

    + Experience drafting in MicroStation OpenRoads Designer and Adobe InDesign;

    + Ability to communicate technical data to all audiences regarding complex design standards, and other technical correspondences.
